Description

This program prepares individuals to do the work of firefighters and Fire Fighter I is the requisite course for Fire Fighter II. Both courses are accredited through the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress with Pro Board certification obtainable through the South Carolina State Fire Academy (SCFA). The Career and Technology Center Firefighter II course intends to achieve NFPA 1001 certification using curriculum addressing the standard. Basic Auto Extrication is an additional courses taught in the program

Expectations and Goals

· Academic testing is conducted for each chapter and module. An accreditation test is administered by a South Carolina Fire Academy certified test proctor at the end of the course. A minimum of 70% is required to pass the course. At the conclusion of the course, a SCFA test proctor conducts a practical skills test. The skills are objectively measured by pass or fail with students allowed 3 opportunities of completing the skill.

· South Carolina Department of Labor and the SCFA requires all students to be a minimum of 16 years of age at the time of registration.

· Each student must become an active member of a local fire department. The student must belong to a sanctioned Junior Fire Fighter program or a Boy Scouts of America Fire Explorer Post. Donaldson Career Center offers memberships to Belmont Fire Department as the sponsoring fire department.

· Students should have a strong understanding of Math, Science, and Physics.

· For each registered student in Firefighter II the following text books are provided by the SCFA:

o Essentials of Fire 6t Edition-published by International Fire Service Training Association.

o Hands on Skills Workbook-published by SCFA

o Basic Auto Extrication-published by SCFA
