Course Description

The Donaldson Career Center Firefighting program is a cooperative program through the South Carolina Fire Academy, the South Carolina Department of Education, and our sponsoring fire department, Belmont Fire Department.

As a program component noted in state law (SC Future Volunteer Firefighters Act of 2010),  students will be enrolled as Junior Firefighters with the Belmont Fire Department. Outside the classroom students serving as Belmont FD Junior Firefighters will have opportunities to participate in training and other activities at Belmont FD.

Students successfully completing the CTE firefighting coursework with a grade of 70% or greater will receive South Carolina Fire Academy transcript credit for Hazardous Materials Awareness, Hazardous Materials Operations, Basic Auto Extrication, and CTC Firefighter I & II.

With these credentials students in the two-year program will have an opportunity to test for International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) Firefighter I and II certifications. Successful IFSAC completion allows students to apply for ProBoard Firefighter certification.

Additional certifications obtained during the two-year program include First Aid/CPR, OSHA 10, Wildland Firefighting, and National Incident Management System 100, 700, and 800 training.

Our program now proudly includes National Technical Honor Society Inductees, South Carolina SkillsUSA Competition Awardees, and the 2020-2021 Donaldson Career Center Student of the Year.
