The ELA department works really hard to provide class time so you can complete your work; thus, there is little homework you will need to complete outside of class.
We understand that you have a life outside of school, and we try to respect 'home time' and 'extracurricular time' through managing our in-class time well.
The only actual HW we assign is to read from our novel studies - we do this so that we can COMPACT a novel study into 2-4 weeks.
We give lots of in-class time to work on papers, projects, and other assignments so that you won't have much HW outside of class. If you use your time wisely, you should NOT have to spend a lot of time on HW.
What you will see listed next to ELA on the assignment calendar includes in-class work which may very well be completed in class, and any writing assignments that are due. We just post them here so you can see what's upcoming and what you may want to tackle early, if you so desire.
If you do find that you are struggling to complete assignments, we offer Office Hours on Tuesdays & Thursdays during lunch. You are encouraged to attend (sign up at least 1 day in advance so we can prep for you).
If you are anxious or spending an inordinate amount of time on HW (more than 90 minutes/night for ALL subjects), please make sure you reach out to your HW teacher so he/she can help you diagnose where the time is being spent, and so that we can provide suggestions and strategies for better study skills, time-management, and assignment completion.
We want you to enjoy school, and we know that limiting HW is going to allow you to feel good about coming to class each day ready to learn. When you enjoy what you're doing, you WILL learn!
