ReThink Ed SEL Curriculum

Greenville County Schools recognizes the importance of students' Social and Emotional Learning (SEL). According to studies, integrating SEL into classrooms can have positive short- and long-term benefits for students. These range from improved academic achievement and classroom behavior to fewer psychological or behavioral issues in the future and overall improved lifetime outcomes as adults. Therefore, GCS has purchased a district wide curriculum called ReThink Ed, which is a teacher led curriculum and consists of videos, discussion, and activities. The five core competencies of SEL are: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making, which are the five domains taught in the ReThink Ed curriculum by classroom teachers. The school counselors also go into the classrooms every other week and support these SEL domains through additional lessons.
