Character Education

At school, character education is learned through lessons, play, modeling, small groups, and individual counseling. For example, all students have class counseling lessons every other week. In kindergarten through third grades, we focus on the skills that a child needs to have a successful school year: friendship, acceptance, feelings, cooperation, communication skills, listening, following directions, patience, self control, self esteem, and even career exploration!

Students in fourth and fifth grades participate in classroom counseling lessons where we focus on acquisition of social and life skills, academic skills, and career exploration. We call this Learning to Live, Learning to Learn, and Learning to Work.

In a typical classroom lesson, we will use a variety of art, writing, music, physical movement, acting, centers, literature, crafts, dance, or technology to encourage student activity. We have activities for small groups, whole class, partners, and individuals. Our goal is to use every learning style possible to create the best environment for our Bobcats.
