Signed Chromebook Agreements Due August 11th
How is one student’s Chromebook identified from another student?
Each device has a serial number which has been recorded as part of the student’s PowerSchool profile. Found Chromebooks are brought to the Media Center to be scanned and the owner identified.
Can students remove the identification sticker on their Chromebook or decorate the lid with drawings and/or other stickers?
Identification stickers cannot be removed. Students should not put any stickers or personalize the Chromebook in any way. If they do, and it can not be completely removed. the student will have to pay for any damage.
Can students take their Chromebook home?
Yes, students are expected to take their device home each night to fully charge, complete homework, study for tests and complete class projects either individually or collaboratively with their peers.
What do students do when their device is not functioning properly?
Report the issue to the classroom teacher who may refer them to the Media Specialist if necessary.
Will earbuds be necessary and, if so, will they be provided?
Each student will need to supply their own earbuds and follow instructions from each of their teachers as to when to bring them to class.
Can students bring their own wireless mouse to use with their Chromebook?
Yes, but it is the student’s responsibility to keep up with it
Are there any areas of the school where the Chromebook will not be allowed?
Yes. The cafeteria and bathrooms are Chromebook free zones.
Will the Chromebook replace my child's textbooks?
In most instances, the District will continue using their current textbooks at this time. Several courses have access to online materials from the textbook companies and will be used where appropriate. Having a Chromebook will allow the teacher to utilize a broad range of online resources and materials.
What if we don’t have internet at home?
While a Chromebook does require WiFi for much of its functionality, there are several features that can be utilized offline. Students and staff will receive training on what can be done without an internet connection so that time spent at home with the Chromebook is most effective. Visit this link: Connecting to WiFi
Will students be allowed to download Apps and Extensions from the Chrome Web Store?
Students are restricted from adding Apps and Extensions. Approved Apps and Extensions are pushed out at the school level. Students are limited to just these Apps and Extensions.
Can the district track web history?
Yes. The district can track information on what sites students were on, when they were on them, and how long they were on those sites.
Will the district’s internet filter and privacy regulation carry over on the device at home?
Yes, the district’s internet filter will be enforced while the student is on campus as well as off campus. Students have no expectation of confidentiality or privacy with respect to any usage of a district issued Chromebook, regardless of whether that use is for district-related or personal purposes. The District may, without prior notice or consent, log, supervise, access, view, monitor, and record use of student Chromebooks at any time for any reason related to the operation of the District. By using a Chromebook, students agree to such access, monitoring, and recording of their use.
