Victoria: “I learned a lot about collaboration in a real team, every person is important. Sometimes I get too ambitious and think of ideas that are not possible, but this project helped me realize that. At first, I wasn’t very good at teamwork, but over time I learned that it's important to consider everyone’s opinion. I think we did a great job in this project.
Working in a team made me realize that each person has different ideas and abilities, and that it’s important to assign tasks based on that. I was always committed to helping my team. If I could change something, I would organize our time better. In our last Expo, we were in such a hurry that we had to do many things on the same day.
We didn’t manage our time very well, and that made it harder. I also had some disagreements with my team, but I learned that the best way to solve problems is by talking and listening to others — not just doing what you want, but considering everyone's opinion."
Alejandro: “I learned that we have to be patient when working in a team, because sometimes it can be hard. When we had no ideas or needed help, we supported each other. I think we all did a good job. Andrea helped a lot, Camila did great, and Melissa was a great thinker — we all worked well together. Expo taught me to be responsible and pay attention to what I need to do. It also taught me to listen to others so I can learn new things.
Sophie: “I learned that being a communicator is very important — it’s better to ask than to do something wrong. Sharing your opinions also helps the team. I became more responsible and paid more attention to what I had to do and what others said, so I could learn too. I supported my team by sharing ideas and helping with questions. The action part was the most difficult because everything had to go well. We had some problems, but we solved them by talking and sharing our opinions. The thinking skill I used the most was analysis, because it helped me understand things more deeply. Before writing something, it’s important to understand it first. Working with my team helped me improve how I express myself, stay calm, and be respectful.”
Melissa: “I learned a lot about myself, like that I can be a good communicator and reach my goals. I think our team worked well together and achieved what we wanted. My personal goal was to help people care more, and I think I did that. Even though we had disagreements, we always found a way to agree. Teamwork made everything easier, and I helped by researching and sharing ideas. Of course, I didn’t do everything — my team helped a lot too. The most difficult part was the action, because we had too many disagreements. We talked with Miss Silvia and our mentor and came to a good agreement. At the end, we were in a hurry to finish the documents, the action, and the display, but we made it.’’
Mateo: “I learned that working in a team means being respectful and helpful. During the action, I felt proud because I helped my team and brought some materials. I think I contributed well during the whole Expo. I also worked on my own by inquiring about Down syndrome. I learned how kids with Down syndrome communicate, and it was very interesting. Expo taught me how to be a better person, how to work in a team, and how to be more prepared for secondary school.’’
Andrea: “In Expo, I discovered things about myself that I didn’t know. At first, I thought I would be alone and not talk to anyone because I missed the day teams were assigned. I felt shy and embarrassed to share my ideas. But as time went by, I felt more confident and made new friends who I really appreciate. Everyone was shy at the beginning, but we learned to communicate and trust each other. I loved learning about Down syndrome and seeing how we all developed different attributes. The ones I used the most were being a thinker (for giving ideas), an inquirer (for researching), and a communicator (for listening and sharing). I learned that I really like investigating interesting topics and that sharing ideas helps the team. Sometimes we had small problems, like when someone didn’t help and others got annoyed, but we always solved them together. That was the biggest lesson for me — to always work as a team to solve problems.”
Camila: “I learned that being part of a team also means working on yourself. If you don’t know how you work, it’s hard to start. I found it challenging to work with people I don’t usually talk to, but I noticed I work faster now and can analyze ideas better. The first part of the action was really fun — it felt good to walk by the hallway and see our work. I also liked the second part, but I think it could have been better if we had followed the plan and asked for more time.”
