BOOST and Greene Bean Coffee teamed up to inaugurate Java and Jazz at Greene County High School.  Our high schoolers performed a set of Big Band jazz music, played in collaborative combos with professional musicians from the Iowa Women's Jazz Orchestra, and then absorbed an hour of amazing jazz music from the IWJO.

BOOST fully funded us to bring in the Iowa Women's Jazz Orchestra!  Greene Bean Coffee supplied free coffee to our guests, as well as donating some profits for coffee sold in-store the day before Java and Jazz.  Then we had a couple of community members step up and make matching donations with Greene Bean Coffee's $1/cup.  With all the generosity from BOOST, Greene Bean Coffee, and community members, we were able to raise funds to help defray Disney Trip costs for kids and buy some new Jazz Band equipment.

This was an incredible concert, and a great learning opportunity for our students.  They got to perform side by side with some amazing professional jazz musicians.  We have worked hard since January to learn our competitive jazz set, but no amount of practice can compare with the value of hearing a professional play their part and then taking a turn to mimic the style.   That experience is the purest form of formative assessment and it represents the absolute best we have to offer kids in music education programs.
