Description: This workshop relies on a highly experiential training approach to provide participants with a better understanding of, and basic tools and techniques for addressing, conflict, and facilitating consensus-based processes. Teams will learn and practice techniques to build relationships, tap the synergy potential of the team, communicate effectively, balance task and process and practice effective dialogue. Instructors will discuss and demonstrate a process for moving diverse groups through difficult and contentious situations in a respective, inclusive, and civil manner that fosters the behaviors of high-performing teams. Participants will "learn by doing,' and at the end will be capable of working within their own groups and teams to apply lessons learned. Instructors will be available to assist with follow-up coaching/mentoring as needed to assist individuals as they work to manage conflict and facilitate consensus-building processes in their own environment.
Participants will explore theories underlying conflict and consensus-building and how it works in the human brain. They will also explore approaches for convening teams or groups of people around decisions, conflicts, and leading workshops. Central to this is understanding how best to match different types of conflicts and conflict generators with various process tools and trusting oneself in helping others.
