Animal testing has been a problem in the world for too long. Animal testing is any scientific experiment that causes a live animal to go through pain. Most commonly used for cosmetics, animal testing is when a cosmetic product, or another potentially harmful substance, is either injected, force-inhaled, or fed to live animals. However, there are many other tests and experiments animals go through in laboratories, not just cosmetic testing. Products with labels,
most commonly with a rabbit that reads “cruelty-free” do not test on animals. However, you may
be surprised that even the most popular brands test on animals. Animals do not belong in laboratories.
This cartoon shows a woman at the grocery store picking out “natural farm fresh chicken”. She pictures an idyllic green farm scene when, in reality, this chicken most likely came from a commercial chicken house, a large narrow structure packed with 20,000-50,000 chickens. The American food system often uses the terms "natural", "fresh", and farm-raised to give a false idea or aesthetic of where food really comes from; sadly it is a very effective form of marketing. Those phrases, in reality, don't mean a single thing. Sadly, it is left to us, the consumers, to educate ourselves and choose food that we can feel okay with.
