The work of the District’s Team for Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity (TIDE) has been hard at work attending to a number of sensitive issues that impact many of our students, each and every day. The team takes very seriously the idea that we want every space in our schools to be safe for every student.
We have attempted to record as many events and changes that have occurred because of this work. Our TIDE team is scheduled to meet every other month in the school year. We provide dinner, childcare, and translation services for our parent partners. The committee is composed of staff, students, and parents. During the last few school years, here are some examples of the EDI changes that have been developed and implemented. Click each date or topic to read about each activity or event.

Created a name change procedure so that students, staff, and families understand not only how to do a name or gender change in our school system. Consultants and specialists from the SOESD and SOU were utilized to create a process that helped students who are working through gender identity and expression issues. Training with counselors and the district equity have been trained in the protocol. All staff were also trained in the procedure in August in-service. Click here to view the form. The Student Information system was also modified to accept preferred names as well as legal names.
