In order to support an entire school system in this work, leadership needs to be cultivated to model by example, lead with integrity, and hold a system accountable for increasing overall equity, diversity, and inclusion. Leadership comes in many forms and is something that everyone can participate in--from students to staff to administration--everyone leads. Click on each area below to see the action plan.

As we look at the 2022-23 school year, the results from the Equity Audits and key issues highlighted from both TIDE and the high school student listening sessions will become the roadmap for the school year.
Action Step (Goal) - Increase gender diversity knowledge and skills to support students.
Narrative - Utilizing network partners from our Southern Oregon Collaboarative, the administration is engaging in gender diversity training. The work engages school leaders in current best practices, how to support students, how to handle name changes, and what microaggressions are (and how to create positive change to eliminate those kinds of adversity!).

Timeline - beginning in August 2021 through May of 2022
Evidence - 3-hour training on August 9, 2-hour training on August 20, 1.5-hour training October 19
Action Step (Goal) Share with the school board members the procedure change and the rationale why
Narrative - Create the name change procedure and in a public board meeting, share how the procedure works and how the families are engaged in that process all the while protecting and preparing students for being able to share any gender expression or sexual orientation.

Timeline - Summer of 2021
Evidence - At the August 10 Board meeting, Director Bloomquist presented the procedure to the school board and the attending public.
Action Step (Goal) - All staff trained in name change procedure
Narrative - Working with OSBA, SOESD, and SOU, create a name change process that helps support students and families whose children need to make a gender or pronoun change. The process will also take into account when PowerSchool data are changed.

Narrative - Create a name change procedure that takes into account supporting students on their journey, when they share publicly a gender expression of sexual orientation, that engages their families in the process, and that creates a process for making a public name change in our Student Information System.
