Reading

May 18th to 22nd

WOW, its the last week of school. Parents I want you to focus on books , books, and more books. Read to them daily. I want your child to explore the book by turning the pages correctly, holding the book up right, and really talk about each page. Point to the pictures explain what is they see , what is happening. Here is a fun video for you and your student to enjoy.

May 11th to 15th

This week we we will continue to expand our comprehension skills through book.

** Remember to review what we learned from the previous weeks.

* Choose any book ( most will have our sight words in them )

* when reading to your child always point out the pictures , sight words they know and have them turn the pages or help.

* Read to them daily .

* let them choose what they want you to read to them. This could be a book, magazine, comics, newspaper article, anything that they find interesting.

May 4th to 8th

Lets make more sentences using real life objects using are sight words.

By doing this , it helps your child connect their sight words and some words they may not quit know yet , but remember we are introducing words all the time along with their sight words. This helps them connect sight words in their sentence's especially using a connection to a real life object which leads us into comprehension.

The skills we are working on is identifying our sight words and incorporating the real life object which leads to comprehension.

** Parents before starting sentence building remember to review the sight words.

next week will work on comprehension.

April 27 to May 1st

Part 2

Lets make a sentence incorporating a "Verb"

  • Parents remember to start with the previous sight words when making a sentence

  • remember verbs are action words in a sentence such as:, ran , eats, go,is, take and was. (

  • Remember some of these action words are not the sight words we have learned , but the focus is using the sight words we have learned and incorporating those into sentences . We then are introducing new words ( verbs) as part of are sentence.

  • keep it simple

  • use items they can relate to

April 20th to 24th

Lets Make a sentence !!

Basic parts of a sentence are the subject , the verb, and ( often , but not always ) the object.

This week we will work on subject to build are sentences using our sight words we have learned.

** Parents always start with the previous sight words first , then go onto second set of sight words.

Sight Words

Sight words are critical to reading not only because they are used so frequently, but also because many of them cannot easily be sounded out or illustrated. ... Because they are used so often it is important that readers be able to recognize these words on sight.

Activities to do with your PCI sight words

· scavenger hunt in the house

· scavenger hunt out in your yard

· hide and seek with one of the PCI sight words

· Make it fun and keep them engaged by lots of praise, high fives or anything that will motivate them.
