Daily Living Skills
Activities of daily living (ADLs) are the self-care tasks your student engages/participates in every day. These activities can look like: Playing, school related activities, grooming, toileting, dressing, eating and functional mobility. Additional activities that your student might participate in could be meal prepping, cleaning/household chores, shopping, and accessing their community.
Utilizing your students strengths in fine motor, visual motor and sensory exploration skills will help with their ability to participate in daily living skills.
Here is a list of activities you could try to encourage daily living skills with your student:
Folding laundry
Vacuuming
Garbage duties
Emptying the dishwasher
Making the bed
Practice clothing fasteners- dressing a baby doll
Going on a scavenger hunt
Washing windows
Cook a meal together
Dusting
Host a game night
Engage in school related activities/recreational sports (special Olympics)
