Austin Woods was quite a shy person when I interviewed him. Austin is a 9th-10th grader who moved here from Oklahoma to the Grand Canyon. He grew up in a place called Stillwater. He likes the school but for a reason only likes a few of his teachers.... "Mhmmmmmm." He likes to play video games when he's not at school. When I asked what he likes to do away from school, he didn't know what to say. What I understood is that he likes to do anything in his free time. He will soon join track and is thinking about discus and shot put. He wants to work with heavy machinery when he grows up but hasn't decided on what college to attended. I personally think this kid will do great in the field of Heavy Machinery if he keeps on making the dream come. Keep working and stay in school, kid!
Kendall Mraz is an 8th grader that went to Desert Sky Middle School in Glendale AZ. Kendall moved here in the park because her dad got a job. She likes this school because you have the option to choose your own activities and she is able to basically do what she likes. It's a funny thing to ask a student but she likes the school lunch, no doubt that answer would always be yes. Kendall likes her teachers and comes to class with a thought of having a good mindset. She doesn't know if she has any dislikes about Grand Canyon School, she answered "IDK" (I Don't Know). My guess is Grand Canyon School is becoming the school we wanted it to be, a school where the "vibe" is safe. I am guessing her favorite subject is art, because she likes to draw when shes away from school. Mraz wants to grow up and be an artist. I asked her if she "looked at any colleges yet" and she answered NAU. I hope that she will successful and have a good path towards her dream. Watch out, Mrs. Zanos! I think we have a "sleeper" in your class that wants a future in the art field.
Kaia Pilkington is a sweat little girl that will make anyone smile. She is 7 years old and lived in Page, AZ where her dad worked for Glendale Canyon. She now lives in the park where her dad works for vegetation. Her favorite part about school is math. I was surprised of her answer because usually other students answer with lunch or recess, but she is not a just another student. Her dislike about school is reading, but soon she will understand why we all need to read. She likes to do Gymnastics when she is away from school and I thought that would be pretty cool to do for your free time. She sounded very pleased when I asked if she like her teachers. She said "yes" like she was so excited and confident of her answer. I saved the best for last, I asked her what she wants to be when she grows up. Her answer was "Marine Biologist." That gave me a smile once I heard her answer.
Mr. Brandon Mock is a chill person to hangout with. He has three siblings, thinks the school is alright (which is sad), thinks the school food is good, likes his teachers, and his grades are good. He is a 15 years old kid that doesn't like sports, is not participating in any sports this year, but hopes try out for track and field. Brandon likes to read and play video games on his free time and on the weekends. Brandon was born in Texas, he was homeschooled since 3rd grade, then later moved here, the Grand Canyon. My personal thoughts about this kid is he looks like a good boy who doesn't look like a fun guy, but he probably is wild once you get to know him. Keep focus on your school, you will go places big.
Jaxon Mraz is an interesting young kid that likes school, likes his teachers, and likes the environment of Grand Canyon. Jaxon is a 6th grader that was originally born in Phoenix, grew up in Phoenix, and went to school at Mercury Mine Elementary. He is now 11 years old. Some things he likes to do on the weekends is play on the computer, his phone, and even his tablet. Seems to me he has something in the future to look forward to that involves tech stuff. He also likes to play games, basically anything that he likes. Sadly likes no sports, but he does likes the school food, which is a bonus. He is a great kid that likes to get his work done and doesn't know what a bright future he has ahead of him. Keep working kid.
Welcome to Zach Mock. Zach Mock is a 5th grader that thinks the Grand Canyon School is an awesome place to be. Zach Mock is 10 years old turning 11, on November 5th. Before he came to Grand Canyon, he grew up in Texas where he spent most of his childhood. He then moved to New Mexico, where he went to school at Clayton School. After a few years of being home schooled, he now attends Grand Canyon Elementary School. He is the youngest amongst his 5 siblings, likes to play video games, has friends, and likes his teachers. His favorite sports are soccer, basketball, and track. He is now becoming a Youtuber. Lastly I asked "how is Grand Canyon so far?" He responded "It is great and I am having fun". He is a great kid, my first impression when I talked to him, he was so hyper and excited. Seems to me that he was really looking forward to this school.
This is Wesley Cummings III, he is a 3rd grader, he is the youngest of 6 other siblings. Wesley is new to the school and to the Grand Canyon. He is coming from the Navajo reservation. The last school that he attended was Jeehdeez’a Elementary School. I asked Wesley what were two words that describe him, and he answered “funny” and “talkative.” I also asked Wesley how his first day of school went, and the reply that I got was, “Scary! I cried!” I was very interested so I asked, “Why?” Wesley replied, “Because too many new people.”
This is Madia Anthony. She is currently a 6th grader. Madia is an older sister to Wesley but is the fourth oldest in her family. She along with her siblings are all new to the school and to the Grand Canyon. She is coming from a school on the Navajo reservation called Cottonwood Day School. I asked Madia to give me two words that she thought described herself, and the words that she gave me are “happy” and “funny.” I asked Madia how her first day of school was and her response was, “It was ok...I was nervous.”
Madelynsia Anthony but “Sky” for short, is an 11th grader. She is the second oldest child in our family, but is an older sister to Arlo, Madia, and Wesley, who are all attending Grand Canyon School. She along with her younger siblings and her older sister are all new to the Grand Canyon. Sky came from Pinon High School. The two words that describe Sky are “shy” and “motivated.” Sky said that her first day of school was “okay.” She also said that she’s “pretty much used to being the NEW KID.” She also stated that “it’s awkward” but that this wasn’t her first time being new to a new school.
