Mental Health refers to an individual's condition in regards to their emotional, psychological, and spiritual wellness. Mental health has a large influence on one's behavior, mind, and well-being. Though many fail to recognize it, caring for one's mental health is just as important as caring for one's physical health.
There are many classifications to an individual's mental health disturbance. Some of these classifications include depression, anxiety, disordered eating, bipolar disorders, etc. It is important to become aware of each of these experiences in order to combat its effects.
Depression:
Depression is currently one of the most common medical conditions experienced by individuals. Depression causes one to feel feelings of sadness and negativity. It has a large influence on one's mind, actions, and motivations (American Psychatric Association).
Anxiety:
Anxiety disorder has caused many individuals to feel constant nervousness, stress, fear, and worry (Felman 2020). This condition affects the behavior of many individuals and may present physical symptoms, shaking, for example.
OCD:
Obsessive copulsive disorder (OCD) affects numerous individuals as they experience continuous cycles of obsessions and compulsions. Obsessions include intrusive thoughts, images, or anything that may trigger uncomfortable feelings. Many individuals engage in compulsions in attemps to stop unwanted behavior or obsessions (International OCD Foundation).
Eating Disorder:
Eating disruptions are a very serious condition, and is classified by severe interferences in eating behavior. There are many types of eating disorders. This includes bulimia nervosa, anorexia nervosa, avoidant restrictive food intake disorder, binge eating disorder, and more (American Psychatric Association).
