STAGE 3: Reflection + Time Management
Last year, you should have taken a variety of assessments to learn more about you and potential careers that could fit your interests, personality and skills.
ACTIVITY 1: Reflection
Last year, you should have taken a variety of assessments to learn more about you and potential careers that could fit your interests, personality and skills.
If you have not taken these assessments, you'll do them first! Complete the following assessments if you also feel your results will be different from your freshmen year.
Login to Naviance.
Select "Self-Discovery" at the top of the menu bar on your home screen.
Take the following assessments:
Career Cluster Finder
Career Interest Profiler
Intelligences
Learning and Productivity
Personality
As you work through the assessments, be sure to "heart" or favorite any career or cluster that is of interest to you. You will use these in later lessons.
If you have taken the assessments, take some time to review your results. Do they still fit? Add/edit any careers/career clusters that may have changed since last year.
ACTIVITY 2: Time Management
Your life is most likely very busy. School, activities, possibly a job, and a social life…it can all add up. A great skill to start learning is how best to manage and prioritize your time.
For this assessment, you will complete a time management tool. Use the tool to see what is taking up most of your time and how best you can fit in everything you WANT.

Login to Naviance and click on the Heart in the menu bar at the top of the home screen.
Click on "My Favorite Careers and Clusters." If you have nothing saved, you will need to revisit your results from the "Self-Discovery" assessments and save ("heart" any careers that stand out to you)!.
Use Naviance ("Explore Careers" under the Career tab on the top menu of the home screen), O*NET and My Next Move to complete the the Career Action Plan (this link will force you to make a copy). Save the Career Action Plan in your Google Drive.
Take some time to research what education/training, is needed, what a typical salary is, and any other important information needed for your potential careers.
Part 2: Junior Year Preparation
Junior year is very important because your grades and classes will be the ones that colleges will look at most closely. You have important decisions to make regarding potential career and college possibilities.
Linked below is the College Planning: 11th grade handout from the College Board. Most of the steps on the planning guide are relevant to your Naviance Research tools and assessments. Please make sure to go over the checklist carefully: College Planning: 11th Grade
You will be scheduling for your Junior Year classes this spring. In order to be prepared, look through the GHS Curriculum Guide and learn about the different courses offered. Are there classes that can help you on your career path? Pay special attention to Slide 7, as it shows you which credits are needed to graduate.
ACTIVITY 4: Resume Builder
It is time to start building a resume. You can use a resume when applying for part-time jobs, applying for colleges or other training programs, or even when asking for a letter of recommendation. A resume is a document that lists your education, volunteer work, previous jobs, special skills, clubs/activities, and any other standout information about you!
Watch this short video about what YOUR resume should contain: 6 Things… (don't forget your earbuds.
