The calendar says March, but we are still in the height of the cold and flu season. Kent County is seeing high rates of respiratory illness, with Influenza B being the dominant strain. There are also reports that these illnesses are lasting 7-10 days for some people. Respiratory illness is most contagious in the 1-2 days leading up to developing the disease, and in some cases as long as a week after symptoms subside. Proper hand hygiene and covering your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing is the best way to limit spread of the disease. If your student is feeling sick and unable to participate in school, please keep them home. Use this link for guidance and assistance on deciding when to keep your student home from school.
On Saturday, March 14 from 9-11am the Student Council will be hosting a Breakfast in honour of those who have served our country. Our annual Veterans breakfast will feature live music from our very own band members, pancakes made by council as well as student-made crafts. ALL VETERANS eat for FREE and there is a minimum $5 donation for non-vets. Please spread the word and we hope to see you there!
Attention sophomores and juniors interested in being on the yearbook staff next year: Applications and teacher recommendation forms are now available in Mrs. Van Hekken's room - room 166. They are due by April 1. Any questions, see Mrs. Van Hekken.
Ramadan Meal Pick-Up Option: Students who observe Ramadan and fast during the school day will have the opportunity to pick up breakfast and/or lunch meals to take home and eat later during Ramadan this year (February 17 through March 19).
Please note: Students may only receive up to one breakfast and one lunch each day. This option is for students who are not receiving school meals during the regular breakfast and lunch periods at school during Ramadan. Multiple days' worth of meals may not be picked up on the same day.
If you are interested in participating in this option, please contact Jamie Kluge, high school kitchen manager, at Jkluge@gpsbulldogs.org for more information.
