2nd Grade Projects

October Project (1 of 1) - Google Slides - Graphic Organizer

  • Students will create a slideshow with a graphic organizer.
  • The graphic organizer can be about anything the teacher decides. The two examples below are about the three states of matter and a personal narrative written by the student. They could also create a graphic organizer about a story they have read or the class has read.
  • Before going to the lab, have the students draw and fill in a paper copy of the graphic organizer.
  • Later, students will go to computer lab or use the computers in the classroom to create a graphic organizer in Google Slides. The number of slides will depend on the amount of information they have in their graphic organizer. All presentations will need the following: title slide, resources slide, and a graphic organizer slide.
  • They will open a new Google Slides presentation and use the 'shapes' and 'lines' tools to draw their graphic organizer.
  • They can use the iPad app Popplet to create their graphic organizer but they will have to save it to their Google Drive to use it with the Google Slides presentation. Creating the graphic organizer in Google Slides is the easiest option.

Please see the examples below.

Nov - Dec Project (1 of 2) - Clipart/Online Graphic Search and Place Graphic on Slide in Slideshow

  • Students will use Google Slides to create a slideshow based on the information from the graphic organizer they created last time.
  • Students will use Google to search for graphics that will relate to their topic. Once the students find their graphics, they will insert them into the slides in their Google Slides presentations. They will need to resize and reposition their graphics so they do not block the text on the slides.
  • There will need to be one graphic for each slide.
  • They will also need to copy and paste the web URL, for the source of the picture, on the last slide "Resources."
  • Please see the examples below.

Nov - Dec Project (2 of 2) - Complete Slideshow with Graphics, Backgrounds, and Transitions

This is the final part of the slideshow project.

  • For this assignment, students will add transitions to their slide shows as well as select a theme and/or format the backgrounds.
  • Students may change the font and other formatting options if they have already completed all the other requirements. Even though students are allowed to make changes to their slide show and edit the way it looks (formatting) , they need to understand that sometimes it is best to keep things simple in order to keep the attention of their audience.
  • Please see the examples above.
