Abstract
Skincare influencers are visible everywhere and have greatly impacted the world in various ways. They have contributed to the world by teaching people about their skin and what skincare products to use. Influencers are like the teachers of the media, for they teach their viewers about things they never knew about. They changed the way people think and care for their skin. Influencers have risen in popularity on all social media platforms and have made a big impact on the lives of their viewers and followers. More and more products have risen in popularity with them and there is a lot of hope for new products to be tested by them as well. Influencers help people understand and have different points of view and opinions on products and emerging trends. They will continue to improve their content and ideas throughout the years. Influencers will also continue to provide important information and aspects of skincare use throughout the years as long as this skincare trend continues, and if its popularity keeps escalating more and more. Skincare influencers continue to rise in popularity every day, and there are always new people who join in on the fun and become influencers.
Background Information
Skincare has made a lot of progress throughout the years. It has been upgraded and become safer to use. Many skincare products have upgraded to better packaging. Most skincare products used to contain toxic chemicals. These chemicals are extremely harmful to the skin and can or could cause serious issues to the body in general. For example, fragrances and synthetic colors can cause breakouts and irritation. Your skin absorbs anything and everything that goes on it making it very dangerous to use products with these chemicals. Having fragrances in skin care is bad because it can cause hives, and it will be as if you’re spraying perfume onto your face. Companies improved the ingredients found and used in these products, and due to this, they were able to ensure safety for the usage of the product. This makes people feel more comfortable about what they are putting on their skin especially when they’re trying a new product out. Another way skincare has made good progress is by having less and less animal testing. A lot of companies tested their products on animals which caused many protests and sometimes even made a company go bankrupt. Many skin care companies have improved and become cruelty-free throughout the past years. This causes some people to feel safer and better about buying skincare, for they know animals weren’t harmed for them to be able to use these products.
The skin is the largest organ your body has, for it is extremely important that you take care of it correctly and well. Your skin prevents sickness, bacteria, fungi, and viruses from entering your body. Another reason why your skin is very important is because it acts like a blanket for your organs, muscles, and bones. Without the skin, you’d feel as if you had no clothes on because everything would just be out. It is vital to ensure your skin is in good condition and isn’t harmed or being harmed, for without it you are at risk of many illnesses and infections. Many bad habits were passed around people which ruined people’s skin. It caused a lot of acne breakouts and irritation. These bad habits caused many worries and concerns throughout the world.
Skincare was very rare back in the day. It was as if it had never existed before. It was extremely rare to see and hear people doing skincare. Skincare was more well-known to people who were specifically prescribed such products by a dermatologist due to skin issues. Skincare was very rare back then, for most of the time the only reason people found out or knew about it was because a celebrity was using or promoting the product. Skincare marketed by celebrities was also one of the many ways skincare was well-known before the increase in products and usage. People believed that since the celebrity promoting it had such good skin and looked flawless, the product would give them the same effect causing people to buy the product more.
A dermatologist named Dr. Shah is one of the #1 top TikTok skincare influencers. He goes into a lot of detail about every product and tells you which products he recommends. Sometimes he also mentions how he has become more popular over the years. You’d think dermatologist offices would always be extremely packed since people always want flawless skin, but dermatologists weren’t sought out as much before the pandemic. Now they have a lot of patients and are becoming more popular over the years.
Contributions/Significance to the Modern World
Skincare influencers have managed to help people and society in various ways. One of them is increasing the demand for dermatologists. Before skincare and all the different routines and trends became popular, dermatologists weren’t very popular nor were they as sought out for. People would still go to them, but it was rare for people to go voluntarily and would mostly go when recommended by a doctor or pediatrician. Now, skin care is everywhere and has become extremely popular and very prioritized. As new trends, skin conditions, and concerns arise, the demand for more dermatologists is steadily increasing (“Dermatology Industry Trends”). The dermatology industry is around $7.7 billion as of right now and has been growing by 1.2% each year (“Dermatology Industry Trends”). Skincare influencers have taught people many things about their skin and made suggestions. Many influencers have also raised awareness about some serious acne issues. Due to this, many people started to question how to keep their skin healthy and how to fix their skin (“Dermatology Industry Trends”). Dermatologists started having more and more people come into their clinics. Today, some skincare brands are even dermatologist-approved or say they are recommended by dermatologists. For example, CeraVe and La Roche Posay are two of the many dermatologists-approved skin care brands. Many skinfluencers have also sparked interest in dermatologists to become influencers themselves. These dermatologist influencers provide tips and help through their social media platforms. With dermatologists as influencers people trust them more, and some people are more likely to believe them since they are professionals and know more about the skin than just any normal TikTok, Instagram, or YouTube influencer. For example, Dr.Shah is one of the top #1 dermatologist influencers at the time (“Top 12 Skincare Influencers on TikTok in 2023”). He provides many tips on what to and not do to your skin. Dr.Shah provides a trustworthy perspective on what tricks and tips you should believe and are safe to follow. He also provides very helpful tips and information about dangerous and harmful products that can cause serious issues to the skin.
Another way skincare influencers have helped society is by helping companies become bigger and more well-known. Influencers have made many brands famous by using their products in their videos and having good things or leaving good reviews on the product causing people to become interested in the product. Due to this people might get excellent results with the product they purchased and repurchase it after it’s finished or they will try out more products from that same brand. Some brands that have become very famous and well-known with the help of these influencers are Drunk Elephant, The Ordinary, Sol de Janeiro, and Glow Recipe (“Top 10 Most Popular Skincare Brands on TikTok”). Products from these brands are seen all over social media platforms and have caused the purchases for these products to skyrocket. The use of these products by skincare influencers has also caused the demand for them to increase. Skincare influencers have contributed to the increase of drunk elephant demand by 36% (“Beauty & Wellness Briefing: Has Drunk Elephant lost its luster?”). Skincare influencers help products grow in popularity at a speedy rate. Some products can be recently launched and many influencers will already be talking about them and informing viewers about them. The elf liquid blushes are an example of one of the many products.
The use of skincare has also increased greatly with the help of influencers. Influencers encourage the use of skin care products and spark interest in people to use products. “The beauty market in 2023: A special State of Fashion report” states that there has been an increase in “the beauty market- defined as skincare, fragrance, makeup, and haircare, and has generated approximately $430 billion in revenue”. With the help of celebrities and influencers, it is estimated that the use of skincare products as well as other things in the beauty industry are “expected to reach approximately 580 billion dollars by 2027”. Skincare has become very popular over the past years. As more and more people learn about skincare and become interested in it the more popular the use of it will be. The article “The Beauty Market in 2023: A Special State of Fashion Report” states that “skincare use is projected to grow by 6% a year”. Skincare has become very popular all around the world and has increased a lot in demand. More and more people discover it on TikTok daily. There are girls as young as 5 years old who are under the influence of skincare products due to watching influencers daily, and they are now interested in using these products the grown-ups are using as well.
Lastly, one of the many other ways skincare influencers have impacted the world is by entertaining people. Skincare influencers are all over the social media. You can be scrolling through TikTok and easily find one of Dr. Shah’s reaction videos. Skincare influencers provide entertainment for people of all ages and all genders. Influencers entertain people while also providing helpful information to viewers. When you are bored you can easily watch influencers' skincare routines and the boredom will go away. Skincare influencers entertain many people by showing and using new products that just came out. They also entertain people by using products that seem interesting and weird to use. An example of these interesting products is the new Milk water jelly tint blushes. These skincare influencers help many people become relaxed by watching these skincare routines, for some people even do ASMR while doing their skincare routine. These skincare influencers also provide entertainment to people by providing information on what products are similar to more high-end products, so they can get products that are almost or act the same way while spending less money.
Final Comments
Skincare influencers have made a huge impact on the world today because they have caused the demand for dermatologists to increase and have helped many people care for their skin better. They have helped dermatologists become more popular and become more in demand. Skincare influencers have helped work increase for dermatologists in a way, for they have more patients now who want to work on their skin. They will continue to grow on all social media platforms, and continue to help people of all ages around the world. Skinfluencers will keep on spreading the word about the skin and how to maintain it as years go by.
Many good things have come from the impact of skincare influencers. They have helped viewers and people all around the world become more engaged with their skin. This is a really big impact from skincare influencers because now people are more likely to care for their skin since they want to have the perfect skin just like the people they view.
