The KISSMOBILE
On August 2023, I brainstormed some unique and unusual ideas for my Hershey art car, then decided on one final drawing. My idea was to make three different Hershey chocolate kisses and put them onto a thick platform with wheels, in fact my design is basically a smaller version of the KISSMOBILE.
First, I began with the Hershey Kisses which were quite difficult to get right, to make them I measured and cut large foam pieces to make into four identical squares first. After that, I stacked them on top of each other, taped them together, and then, shaped them with a box cutter to make them look curved as the kisses look like in the model. Because I didint want all three kisses to be exactly the same I did make one to be the tiniest bit bigger than the other two that would be put at the front of the car.
Afterward, I began to paper mache my kisses to make them harden and take shape better. This process took a very long time because I did have to apply multiple layers to get a smoother texture and fully covered Hershey Kiss. When I finally finished paper macheing, I then applyed two or more coats of white paint, fotrunately I then realized I could just use aluminum foil to get the kisses to be even more accurate as they look in the picture. Because of this I didint need to paint them as they already were silver which wasted less time.
Once I decided to use aluminum foil I then just matched the other two colors and design for the kisses. I painted one of the two gold and the other I added dark brown stripes. My idea was to make each Hershey Chocolate Kiss different which is why one is the Hugs kiss, the other is Almond, and the last one is meant to be the original, Kisses.
After two or three coats of paint my next step was to add the final details to each kiss such as, the papers that look like flags on top of each kiss showing what type/ flavor they are. I decided to make these with news paper and then just cut them into small shaped flags. When I finished cutting all three I then painted all of them multiple coats of white, when the paint dried the last step was to write the names with a blue thin pen and then hot glue them on the perfect spot on the Kiss.
As I finished one part of my car, I then had to continue to work on a thick base to support the Hershey Kisses. This base did take a long time to finish as it was really flimsy at first but later got sturdier over time. To start the base I began with a big carboard box, because the box was to big I later decided to cut it in half. When the base was taped together I then started to paper mache which took a few days to complete after many layers having to be done.
Once the paper mache looked smoother and dryer I headed on to adding white paint until the paper mache could not be seen anymore with no cracks in sight. Afterward I picked out a maroon red, light brown, and black to mix them together and get the good dark brown I needed. Then precided to paint two or three coats of dark brown on the base to get it to be full coverage.
Now, all I needed was to do the wheels and then glue everything together. With the help of my friends I was able to succesfully finish the wheels that in the end were paint fully black that would allow my car to roll.
Finally, all I needed was to hot glue my base and kisses. When I was done with that, I let my project dry before writing my logal, "HERSHEY'S" and "KISSMOBILE" on each side with silver and gold sharpy.
