My name is Kaitlyn (Katey) Hills, and I am the Assistant Superintendent for the Governor Wentworth and Middleton School Districts.
Teaching runs in my family. My grandpa was a high school English teacher and principal, and I have numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins who have become educators. As a teenager, I taught karate classes and self defense seminars, and in college I volunteered as a teacher at a local juvenile justice center and in area schools. I have worked in public education since 2005, when I started as a Social Studies teacher at Prospect Mountain High School in Alton, NH. I served as Prospect Mountain's Assistant Principal before joining GWRSD in 2013 in my current role as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction. It is a job I love!
I enjoy teaching and learning, ever ready to expand my knowledge through a course, discussion, or book, and eager to share what I've learned with others. Outside of my work, I love reading, solving jigsaw puzzles, walking, and spending time with my husband, two sons, and our dog Maylie. You'll likely see some cameos from them in my JumpRope videos. We spend a lot of time at hockey rinks as both boys and my husband play hockey, but off the ice, we stay busy playing Bucket Golf or cornhole and swimming and boating up at our cabin in Maine.
Education: University of Notre Dame (B.A.), Brown University (M.A.T.), and Northeastern University (Ed.D.)
Favorite Book: It's hard to choose one, but A Prayer for Owen Meany (John Irving) is at the top of my list.
Surprising Fact: I am a second degree black belt in Isshin Ryu martial arts.
Favorite Song: "The Longest Time" by Billy Joel
My Role Model: My dad, because he is wise, funny, and generous
When I was young, I wanted to be...a news anchor!
My favorite sports team is...I love the Bruins, but I also cheer for the Minnesota Twins and the Vikings because I grew up in Minnesota.
I can play...the piano.
Favorite Season: Fall! It's the fresh start of a new school year, the sky and trees are the most vivid colors, and the temperatures are perfect!
If I could have any superpower, it would be...the ability to manipulate time (slow it down, speed it up, and travel through it to the past and future)!
