This is the art studio in the corner (Highbury Ave and Jensen Street). Please bring a pencil, eraser, binder, and sketchbook daily after day 1.
This is the computer lab across from the auditorium. Please bring a pen or pencil and binder daily. Bringing your own camera (phone camera or DSLR) is optional. We will be using school computers and your google drive daily.

Google Classroom will be used in each course this year. I will try to post the plan for the day on the main "Stream" page every day before class starts and materials for all projects will be posted on the "Classwork" page. Please check these if you miss class or need another copy of a handout.
All students will be shown how to use this classroom to keep track of lessons and work. Students should submit work to the matching Classwork assignment post, rather then sharing a file or emailing a document. I would be happy to teach you how to do this.
If it is something that you did at home, bring the work with you to school or attached some well lit photos to the project on Google Classroom.
Remain in your seat and raise your hand. This reduces travel in the classroom and helps everyone have access to support equitably.
Make arrangements with me for extra help if needed.
Google Classroom comments are not like a message or text. They do not pop up on my phone. If the question is time sensitive, asking directly at school during class is the fastest way to get help.
I will also give you access to my main school email (not posted here) in case you are not able to come to school and need assistance that is time sensitive. This email is checked at least once every school day.
If you have a question that is not time sensitive, there are private and public commenting functions on Google Classroom.
If you ask a question in a public comment all students can see this and respond. It is very important that you only post serious requests and helpful answers here in order to keep public comments useful to everyone. Silly or off topic posts can get you muted. Inappropriate or hurtful comments will get you muted and can result in disciplinary action. No trolling!
The best place to ask a question or leave extra information just for the teacher on Google Classroom is in a private comment on an assignment post. Other students will not see what you wrote. If you have a question about something specific in art you have already started, attaching a photo will help me answer your question fully. If I notice several students have the same question I likely post information in the stream and on class assignment posts.
We share supplies and equipment within classrooms and with other art classes. You will be given information on the way materials are borrowed, cleaned, and returned. Art materials and spaces should be used in a conscientious and safe manner at all times. This is an Ontario Ministry curriculum expectation and will be evaluated.
When possible equipment will be signed out to you for the entire unit and will stay at school in your classroom storage area. You are responsible to make sure it is cleaned each day to keep it in good working order. Acrylic paint left on brushes overnight will ruin them, for example.
Every student is encouraged to bring a pencil and eraser each day to class. If you want to bring your own supplies or use your own equipment at home, here are some suggestions:
The following are things you could gather if you want for projects:
Pencil crayons in a variety of colours
A drawing pencil set (from the Dollar store or elsewhere)
A full sized clear or metal ruler
A high quality or coloured-page or multi-media sketchbook
A good pair of full-sized scissors
A variety of art markers, especially fine point ones
A white vinyl eraser
A quality pencil sharpener
A small dry watercolour set and brushes in your favourite size or style
Craft supplies
Drawing media other than pencils (charcoal, pastels, etc.)
For safety reasons, paints and other art liquid can't be brought from home to school. Craft knives should not be brought to school either.
Art has it's own set of safety needs because it is a hands-on class with equipment.
Please follow safety demonstrations and discussions carefully.
No horseplay should ever happen in an art studio.
Never throw something in class even if it is a pencil to a friend.
Art supplies and eating are not a good combination.
Students are responsible to keep their equipment and stations in clean, working order each day.
Bags need to be placed where they are not a tripping hazard. Bags should not interfere with emergency travel or travel to stations in the room like sinks.
We sit in groups in the art studio and pass materials around. Avoiding sharing viruses and germs can take a few minutes of precautions and save a lot of time later with illnesses. Health recommendations are updated regularly by the Thames Valley District School Board and by the Middlesex London Health Unit, so please refer to the most recent ones. They will change more often than this page.
Here are some things you could do to reduce passing viruses and germs in an art studio:
Wash your hands before taking shared equipment / supplies or using a school computer.
Wear a mask that covers your nose and mouth. Your mask helps protect me and my mask helps protect you from the spread of respiratory illnesses. At this time masks are optional, but recommended in school.
Stay home if you are sick with a communicable illness. You can check the Google Classroom to help get caught up on missed work and even submit work there on the Classwork page. Due dates can be adjusted if needed.
