Using our Library

Etiquette

School protocols must be followed.

The Library is for quiet independent or collaborate school work.

The Cafeteria is for eating, drinking & noisy work.

Keep the Library clean by using garbage & recycling bins.

Please be courteous to students using the Library for educational pursuits.

Privileges

Our Library features thousands of Fiction & Non Fiction titles, as well as computers, chrome books & a variety of other tech for students to borrow.

To be fair to ALL Medway students, items must be returned in good condition & on time.

A replacement or replacement fee is required for items that cannot be returned, or are badly damaged by TVDSB standards. See the Teacher-Librarian for details.

Loan Periods

Books are loaned for 3 weeks and must be renewed.

An automatic courtesy reminder email is sent to each student's gotvdsb mail account.

Books that are damaged or not returned must be replaced.

Overdue items from other TVDSB schools can be returned to the Medway Library. The account will be cleared & the item returned on behalf of the student.

Book Returns

Books can be returned at circulation when signing out a new book.

Books can be placed in the Return Bin inside the Library by the exit.

Books can be placed in the secure Blue Metal Return Bin in Medway's main foyer. This is a locked bin that is accessible to students whenever the building is OPEN, including during the summer break.

Please make sure you have removed personal items from books, including sticky tabs etc, BEFORE returning books.

Lost / Damaged

Please see the Teacher-Librarian if the book has been damaged or cannot be returned.

Sometimes damage can be repaired (ripped cover, broken spine).

Books that are badly damaged or not returned must be replaced.

Loss of or damage to Electronic Equipment will be referred to Administration.

Volunteering

40 Community Service Hours are needed to graduate. These can be earned by volunteering in our Library any time students are not scheduled in a class. Check with Guidance re: changes due to COVID.

Cell Phone use in the Library

Respectful use of cell phones is permitted in the Library.

If cell phone use is disruptive or disrespectful, students will be asked to correct their behaviour, or leave the Library. If the behaviour warrants it, students will be sent to the office to speak with administration.

Teachers using the Library as an extension of their classroom space will monitor their own students' behaviour, including cell phone use. Students must adhere to the cell phone policy set out by their classroom teacher, the school, and the Library.

Taking photos / video / audio recordings of other people without their knowledge is not appropriate.

The Library is NOT the place for private conversations. Please be aware of your surroundings!
