Companion Planting Plan: Learn about companion planting, and research which plants thrive with others, and which to plant apart.

Grade 6 Science: Biodiversity

· Use an existing planting plan for a garden to critique the level of biodiversity present.

· Generate a list of suggestions on how to improve biodiversity in the garden.

· Develop a planting plan/ map of the garden of what should be planted together, based on research about companion planting and evidence of what grows well in your school’s garden.

Grade 6 Social Studies: Global Issues

· Food security is a global issue that, in Canada, can be helped with some local solutions. What are ways that your community is working to address food security? How are these solutions unique to your local area?

· How can you lessen the environmental impact of your food travelling to get to your home? Can you map the miles that one day of your food has traveled?

· What are ways to access food grown closer to home?
