Conversation-starters: Opportunities for Critical Thinking
Planting: Consider possible planting options and design a plan regarding what should be planted in the garden.
Growing: Ongoing watering and monitoring of the garden.
Monitoring: Students are encouraged to design their own grade-appropriate monitoring system to record observations from the garden.
Grade 2 Science: Air and Water in the Environment
· Based on your observations, design a watering schedule for a warm summer keeping in mind the needs of the various types of vegetables planted.
· Observe, measure and record precipitation. If we water in the morning on different days, how long will it take for the soil to dry out on a cool day vs a hot day?
· How would the time of day that you water your garden be important?
· Share the results of your observations and future plans for watering with an audience of your choice.
Grade 2 Social Studies: Global Communities
· Why do we grow certain vegetables here in Southern Ontario?
· Why do other types of food grow well in other countries?
· How should food choices change with the seasons?
