VISUAL ART

VISUAL ART classes offered at CECI include grade 9, 10, and 11 open level courses and grade 11 and 12 University/College level courses. In the grade 9 and 10 courses, students can expect to receive foundational instruction on a variety of media. As well, students will explore prehistoric and early western art history. The grade 11 open level course is an applied arts course focused on craft and popular arts such as digital photography, paper sculpture, and mask-making. Finally, the CECI art experience culminates with the grade 11 and 12 University/College courses where students continue to hone their artistic skills and begin to generate meaning and connections with their work. Renaissance through Contemporary art history is also explored in the senior level arts. Art classes allow students to develop their visual arts skills and creative thinking. Students taking courses in CECI visual arts can expect to experiment with a variety of media including drawing (graphite and conté), oil pastel, painting (tempera, acrylic, watercolour, and oil), printmaking (lino, silk screen, and intaglio), sculpture (found object, paper, and air dry clay), as well as mixed media and collage.
