Drama

Drama Classes offered at CECI include grade 9 and 10 open level classes and grade 11 and 12 University/College level courses. All drama students learn skills that will help them with their other courses in secondary school and carry them through life. Skills taught in junior grades and reinforced at the senior level include: •Vocal techniques - encourage clear and engaging speech habits and are a benefit to acting skills, public speaking and seminar presentations. •Expressive body movement, gesture and improved posture - used to improve self-confidence and others’ perception of them. •Improvisation skills – benefits the ability to think and react quickly in new situations. •Leadership skills – and working in effectively in teams. •Increased self–esteem and confidence through role play and creative experimentation. •Strong communication skills, listening, negotiating and communicating. Grade nine drama students study tableau and mime. They read plays and write and perform brief scenes; most units culminate in a group performances. Students learn how to use the classroom sound and lighting system and operate it for each other’s performances. Students write and record a short radio play and learn how to create and edit sound effects on computers. Grade ten drama students create a short video play or public service announcements. Senior classes perform for audiences from other classes; junior classes have the opportunity if they wish. Most of all, drama classes are fun. Activities are physically engaging and creative. The drama classroom is an accepting and encouraging environment, which fosters creativity in all forms of performance.
