Proposal [10pts]
Background Draft [25pts]
Each individual will complete brief background research on their selected topic (see below). This background research is meant to inform students around the topics their projects are based on and add background information to their YouTube presentations. The following are expected for the background section:
your writing should be germane to the specific topic (listed below)
you must provide ample in-line citations from peer reviewed literature (works cited also listed at the end)
writing must flow logically and be easy to understand
must clearly connect to your analysis
should be about 1 page long at least (single space, 11pt, Times New Roman) - works cited is additional
Methods Draft [25pts]
Each group should write a methods section. This methods section should be detailed enough such that someone wanting to duplicate your work could do so using this methods section. You must include things such as:
Data Sources
Workflow
Specific caveats and decision points
Recommendations to improve the product if there was more time
Product (i.e. map, analysis, etc.) [50pts]
Each group will provide a set of products from your work. These should include:
Code or a zipped folder containing all relevant files for the analysis
A final map that adheres to the Map Evaluation Guidelines
A short summary section that fully explains your results
IN-CLASS Presentation [50pts]- the following are the sections required for the 15 minute in-class presentations
Background [15pts]
Ideally you are able to use the background section you have already written in addition to new research. This section provides context for your project. Use the peer-reviewed literature to provide as much background as you can to help the audience understand (i) your study system, (ii) your research question, and (iii) why this work is important
Methods [15pts]
Ideally you are able to use the methods section you have already written in addition to new work. This section is where you lay out - in as much detail as possible - how you have achieved your project work. Include (i) datasets and where they came from, (ii) workflows and analyses, (iii) and caveats and decision points, assumptions you made to move forward. Be detailed enough so that someone watching your presentation could repeat your work if they took good enough notes.
Results [15pts]
It is in this section that you showcase the product(s) that you actually created as part of your project. Show the audience but also lead us through your results. Help interpret your products and explicitly tell us about the notable findings.
Future Work [5pts]
You are in a good position now to think about what the next steps for this project should be. As far as you can tell - what are the logical next steps? What advice would you have for a student team that would pick up this project?
