Note: Please hand in one Google Doc to Moodle for the exam. When you provide the link to colab code make sure that the colab is shared with me. When you provide a link to a webmap created in Arc make sure that I have viewing privileges. My preference is that all colab code will be provided as one colab file (only need to authorize once). Make sure you paste any required plots to your Google Doc.
[40pts] Create a plot of NDVI over at least a 3 year period for any point in the world. Try to pick a point where you will see some variation (land - not ocean, no perennial ice cover, not in a city). Remember that MODIS has an NDVI product. Do your results broadly agree with what your expectations were? Why or why not? Paste your plot into your Google Doc with your colab link and explanation.
[30pts] Create a plot comparing the Land Surface Temperatures (LST) of two cities - one in the northern hemisphere (this one must be in the USA) and one in the southern hemisphere - over at least a 3 year period. What do you notice about how they relate to each other? Why is this? Paste your plot into your Google Doc with your colab link and explanation.
[20pts] You chose a USA city for #2. What is the average elevation of the state that contains that city? How does this compare to the average elevation of the country that contains the city you chose for the southern hemisphere? Provide colab code as well as the numbers (with units). Do you think this affected your temperature data you plotted in #2? Why or why not?
[40pts] Arc GIS Online
create a map centered on Chicago, IL
browse publicly available layers (search "ArcGIS Online" from dropdown) to find
Change Basemap to "OpenStreetMap"
Add Layers:
Average Urban Heat Index by Census Tract in Cook County, Illinois
color the census tracks according to the variable "Average Urban Heat Index", your choice on color ramp
Assisted_Living_Facilites_in_Chicago_Wards
Change/add anything you think you should to make the map readable and useful
Now, conduct ANY analysis on these data that you wish. The only stipulation is this analysis MUST provide additional important information. You may determine where a new facility needs to be built, you may decide which facilities need demolished, you may determine where to focus a tree planting campaign. You could add additional layers and determine which facilities are not served well by emergency services in case there is a heat-related issue. The question, and analysis, is up to you. The only stipulations is that you MUST conduct at least one analysis and it must make sense given your data.
[20pts] This question is different from the rest. You have been using ArcGIS Online and now you have moved on to using ArcGIS Pro Desktop. I know that there is much to learn within both platforms - but - from what you have done so far - what would you say are the main differences in functionality between ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Pro? Please use as many specific examples from your work in this class as possible.
