Dear staff,
We are excited to share with you that our organization is participating this year in the Green Streets Initiative's Commuter Challenge. We'll be competing against some of the area's most iconic workplaces: the City of Cambridge, Boston University, the US DOT Volpe Center, Takeda Pharmaceuticals, and many other architecture, technology and other firms!
What does this mean for you?
All we ask you to do is log your commute to work on Green Streets' website, one day during the week of the last Friday of the month! (I'll be sending monthly reminders.)
Must I walk or bike to work?
No!!! Any way you commute is fine! We are excited to get the highest percentage of staff simply log your commute and, if you like, answer the optional Question of the Month.
Why do we participate in this program?
This Challenge is an opportunity to start our organization's conversation about commuting options, benefits, suggestions for ways to improve commutes, and how others integrate their commutes into their lives. We also glean a lot of information about how staff feel from their answers to the Questions of the Month (which are provided to us, anonymized).
What if I always commute by bike? Or Transit?
We want ALL commuters to check in as that's how we win!
And, if you bike, walk, use transit, checking in is a chance to show your numbers -- how many of you commute that way from various parts of the city -- and express your opinions about your commute.
Moreover, it's a chance to have soapbox and be able to explain to colleagues how and why you do what you do. Believe it or not, many of us are shy to ask you how you manage and about some of the details of your commute.
What's in it for me?
First of all, you will have many chances to be personally rewarded if you log a commute. There's this network of retail partners who want to reward you. (You can print out a coupon or show your emailed "check-in receipt".) And you will be entered into Green Streets' monthly raffle with great local prizes.
Our company will also reward you:
Finally, you will help us win the Ice Cream and Fruit Party! (For the company with the highest percent of staff check-ins in our size category!
