Thank you for returning for another Commuter Challenge this year! Before the start of the Challenge, take a few minutes to review last year's metrics and to set goals for the 2019 Challenge.
Green Streets' goal is to double monthly participation and we'd love to see you do the same! We are also hoping to attract more current drive-alone commuters to the Challenge to better tackle congestion, reduce emissions and increase active commuting.
In addition to Green Streets' rewards, what, if anything, might your workplace offer as extra incentives to staff for logging a commute this year? These incentives need not cost anything, and can be inspiring and lots of fun. If everyone in your workplace already commutes car-free, take it to the next level and give them an extra challenge, as Miller Dyer Spears' coordinator Beth Eisenhower did in 2018. Invite people to submit commuting videos, pictures, or stories of themselves or colleagues. What other in-house departments or even outside groups might like to host a Walk/Ride Day event or table for your staff. Use Walk/Ride Days and the Challenge to share information and engage staff around other environmental, health, community, or financial issues.
Based on feedback from Green Streets Board and coordinators, Green Streets is changing the name of the Challenge in 2019 from Walk/Ride Day Corporate Challenge to Green Streets Commuter Challenge. We hope that the new name better reflects the Challenge’s inclusiveness of all modes and participants. A unique feature of our Commuter Challenge is that it welcomes drivers to log a commute. Involving more car commuters and all kinds of commuters will increase the impact of Walk/Ride Day, our monthly day of transportation awareness.
Workplaces have the opportunity to raise their visibility with our community and expand the impact of their charitable giving by sponsoring check-ins with a micro donation to a designated charity. Please talk to your colleagues in philanthropy or marketing about this fun charitable giving offer. Green Streets takes a small administrative fee to administer the donation to the charity. Your organization receive recognition through Green Streets' newsletter, check-in form, website. Our sponsorship brochure has more information.
Green Streets is getting smarter about best-in-class commuter benefits. Your input into the Coordinator Feedback Survey about current and desired employer-provided benefits will help us inform you and your employer about best practices regarding commuter benefits.
As described in the section above, Green Streets plans to help our workplace coordinators reach their goals by working with them to specify annual targets, and articulate ways to achieve them.
