Citizenship and Identity

In Social Studies, we were exploring how we belong in groups. We started talking about the roles and responsibilities of an individual as a family member. We read a book about the different features of Alberta, (As Big As The Sky, As Tall As The Trees), children drew pictures of their favorite thing in Alberta. They know the name of their city and country. In the coming days, we will talk about their role as a son or a daughter. They will be talking about their role as a sibling or another important member of their family. After family comes their community. Their school is also a community. We will talk about and learn what role and responsibility we have in the present situation that the world is facing as a global community.

I am Unique:

During our first term, students will be focusing on how we are all alike, yet each one of us is unique. They will be talking about and sharing; their interests, their identity, their talents and strengths, the significance of their names and who named them, etc.

How to be a good citizen in the present circumstances the world is facing?

As being informed about current affairs is also a part of K-12 curriculum, we will be discussing our roles and responsibilities as an informed and responsible citizen. Students will be doing different activities where they will have a chance to do some research and gather information, draw and present in different ways.
