Scholarships below are organized by the due date in RED. It is the student’s responsibility to be aware of all deadlines, especially where the scholarship is to be submitted. Some scholarships are turned in to the AHS Guidance Office, but the majority are submitted online or by mail by the student. Scholarships without an application link are not currently active. Any student that needs a transcript to mail with a scholarship can request one from Mrs. Deppen in the guidance office. Expired scholarships and future scholarships, will not have an activated link.

Hagan Scholarship Foundation

​Submit  by:  December 1st, 5:00 pm CST

The Hagan Scholarship is a nation-wide need-based merit scholarship providing each recipient with the opportunity to graduate debt-free, providing $7500 each semester. Must attend a public, private, charter, magnet or STEM high school, have a 3.5 GPA enroll in an eligible college, and Household Adjusted Income cannot exceed $100,000. 

Elk's Most Valuable Student

The Elks National Foundation (ENF) awards 500 four-year scholarships based on academics, leadership, and financial need. National awards range from $1,000 per year to $12,500 per year. The Elks scholarship is open to high school seniors looking to complete a 4 year Bachelor’s program. Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need.

Equitable Excellence Scholarship

The Equitable Excellence Scholarship is open to high school seniors attending college in the fall of 2023. Students who have made an outstanding achievement related to reducing risk in areas such as financial, environment, health and/or emergency preparedness or an achievement around empowering society to better face risk, are encouraged to apply.

National FFA Scholarships

Advisor/Sponsor deadline: Jan 18th

Scholarships are sponsored by businesses and individuals through the National FFA Foundation and are given for a wide variety of experiences, career goals and higher education plans. The selection process takes into account the whole student - FFA involvement, work experience, Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE), community service, leadership skills and academics.  More than 1,500 scholarships are available with just one application to complete for eligibility!

​​JFK Profile in Courage Essay

Students must write an essay describing and analyzing an act of political courage by a US elected official who served during or after 1917, the year of John F. Kennedy's birth. 


There are first and second place prizes as well as five finalists and eight semifinalists. 


East Central Ohio Mensa

Submit online by: 11:59PM (CST) on Jan 15th


Eligible students are those who will be pursuing a degree program in an accredited U.S. college or university during the academic year following their application. There is an essay portion, no more than 550 words.



​​Firelands Electric Scholarship

​Qualified students should submit the application by mail. Applications must be received in the Firelands Electric Office by 4:00PM on January 17th.


Every year, Firelands Electric awards $10,000 in scholarships to outstanding high school seniors who have a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. The top five boys and top five girls receive awards from Firelands Electric. The top two winners are also eligible to compete for additional scholarships in the state competition at Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives in Columbus.

February Deadlines

​​​​OSU Alumni Club of Ashland County Scholarship

The Ohio State University Alumni Scholars Program (ASP) is intended to recruit, provide recognition and financial assistance to incoming OSU freshmen. The Alumni Association coordinates with the local alumni club, Admissions and Undergraduate Financial Aid. The program provides scholarship awards as competitive, merit-based, recruitment scholarships.  Students must have applied to OSU to complete the application.

​​​​Elks Legacy Award

The ENF Legacy Awards scholarship program awards 250 college scholarships worth $4,000 each to the children and grandchildren of Elks members. Applicants must be the children and grandchildren of dues-paying Elks members who are high school seniors, going on to college, and exhibit the values of the Elks National Foundation:  knowledge, charity, community service, and integrity.

Scholarships will be awarded to one senior from Ashland, Holmes, or Wayne County. Eligible students must demonstrate outstanding achievement as indicated by high school grades, test scores and awards.





Junior Achievement (JA)

 We are looking for applications from students with a 2.5 G.P.A. or higher who will be:

-Attending a 4-year accredited college

-Attending a 2- year accredited college  

-Attending a trade school

 -Enrolling in an apprenticeship program

-Entering a full-time employment opportunity that comes with job-related start-up expenses (like uniforms, equipment, tools, etc.)

Ashland Musical Club Scholarship

You must provide your own accompanist

The Ashland Musical Club will award a $500 scholarship to an Ashland County student planning to study music at the college level.  An audition is required as part of the selection process. The applicant must be a high school senior who is a resident of Ashland County.  The applicant must plan to study music at the college level but DOES NOT need to major in music in order to be eligible for the scholarship.  Selection will be based upon musical ability and ambition, financial need, and information provided on the application.

The OAPSE Memorial Scholarship Foundation Program is available to any graduating high school senior whose parent or legal guardian is a member in good standing of OAPSE and who intends to enroll in a full-time degree program in any 2 or 4 year accredited university, college, business or technical school. Scholarships of $2500 are awarded to one applicant in each if the 10 OAPSE districts in the state.

Ohio Oil and Gas Energy Education Foundation Scholarship

The Ohio Oil and Gas Energy Education Foundation offer a renewable $1000 scholarship to students with a 2.5 GPA (or higher). Ohio resident or a student planning to attend an Ohio university or technical school and pursuing a degree in the natural gas or oil industry.

Margaret Finney Memorial Journalism Scholarship

Submit to AHS Guidance by  March 14th.

Margaret Finney Memorial Scholarship is for seniors planning on majoring in journalism and who have been involved in Panorama, Guide, or Video Production while at AHS.


Class of 1959 Scholarship

Sponsored by the class of 1959, this awards a $300 scholarship to a senior based on achievement in overcoming obstacles and financial need.

​​Roosevelt Robinson ​Scholarship

The ROOSEVELT ROBINSON HONORARY SPORTS SCHOLARSHIP was established in 2004 following the induction of Roosevelt Robinson into the Ashland County Sports Hall of Fame.  As a further tribute to him and to reward a graduating Ashland High School athlete, the AHS Class of ’66 began funding this annual $500 scholarship. On July 7, 2011, Rosey died and the scholarship was renamed the ROOSEVELT ROBINSON MEMORIAL SPORTS SCHOLARSHIP. Open to all AHS senior athletes.

​​​​​Horatio Alger Association

The program assists high school junior students who have faced and overcome great obstacles in their young lives. The scholarships are funded by Horatio Alger Members who, like the Scholars, have experienced challenges but ultimately overcame them to become successful business and civic leaders. Students must plan to earn a Bachelor’s degree and demonstrate critical financial need. There are scholarships offered at the state and national levels.

Memorial ​Scholarship

Jason Jakubowski, class of 1989, was an outstanding student at Ashland High School. He graduated from the Naval Academy in 1993 with high honors, and was well on his way to reach his dream of becoming an astronaut. He was tragically killed while flying a mission in his F-18. His family has continued to provide the funding for this scholarship in loving memory of Jason.


Firelands Community Bank Scholarship

FCBank is committed to the communities and businesses they serve and proud to support the next generation of business leaders. They invite eligible students to enhance their education by participating in their annual scholarship contest. Funding is available for students continuing their education in a business-related field. Up to 5 scholarships will be awarded with one winner per

Directions Credit Union Scholarship

Directions Credit Union is offering three, one time, $1,000 scholarships to students attending an accredited college, community college, or trade school. Applicants must be a member of Directions Credit Union or have a parent/grandparent that is a member.

Carlos Weber Memorial ​Scholarship

This scholarship offered through the Wayne County Community Foundation was established in 2000 after the untimely death of Carlos at the age of 23 from injuries suffered in a construction accident.  

Applicant must be an Ashland or Wayne County graduating high school senior enrolling at The Ohio State University Agricultural Technical Institute (OSU-ATI) or an enrolled OSU-ATI student who has at least one more full-time year of classes.  One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded.

The Ashland County Retired Teachers Association is offering  a $500.00 scholarship to two Ashland County seniors pursuing a degree in education.  

Ohio Gas Association Scholarship

The Ohio Gas Association is pleased to offer a scholarship to students who plan to pursue a career in the natural gas industry or related field (general business) through an accredited 2 or 4 year program. This is a renewable scholarship in the amount of $1,000.

The Jack S. Kelley Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship will benefit students from the following school districts: Ashland City Schools, Crestview Local Schools, Hillsdale Local Schools, Loudonville/Perrysville Schools, and Mapleton Local Schools. The Scholarship will be given to a student whose parent/guardian, immediate family member, or self has had a cancerous condition. The scholarship will be given to a student in need of funds for college.

​​#RARE is Scholarship Fund​​​

The EveryLife Foundation for Rare Diseases has established the #RAREis Scholarship Fund to help adults with rare diseases in a variety of educational pursuits, regardless of treatment status. Thanks to the support of Horizon Therapeutics plc, one-time awards of $5,000 each will be granted up to 70 recipients for the Fall 2023 semester. 


Mike Rowe Work Ethic Scholarship

Ohio Association of Public School Employees Local #233 Scholarship

This year Local #233 of the Ohio Association of Public School Employees of Ashland, Ohio will present a scholarship in the

amount of $400.00 to a qualifying senior who is planning to further his or her education. This senior does not have to go to Ashland

High School. Only OAPSE members’ children or grandchildren will be eligible for this scholarship. The scholarship money will be

paid directly to the school of the student’s choice. The winner of this award will be recommended by a scholarship committee

consisting of members of Local #233. Financial need, character, and probable success will be the basis for awarding this scholarship.

​​​Ashland Evening Lion's Club Grants-in-Aid Scholarships​​​

The Ashland Evening Lions offer three grants-in-aid to Ashland High School seniors intent on pursuing further education and to memorialize club members who have died. 

Two grants of $750.00 will be issued each year to a graduating student of Ashland High School. A third grant of $750.00 is reserved for the child or grandchild of an Ashland Evening Lions member, which may or may not be attending Ashland High School. The grant must be used for tuition purposes or expenses at any institution of higher learning accredited by a national or state agency.

Ashland County 4H Committee Scholarship

Must be RECEIVED in mail by April 30th

The Ashland County 4-H Committee scholarship was established in 2014 to help local youth 4-H members' efforts towards their higher education.  This scholarship will be awarded annually to current active members in the Ashland County 4-H program.  The Ashland County 4-H Committee will be awarding a one-time minimum $500 scholarship.  Depending on number of applicants, numerous awards or money amounts may be given.

Kathy Blackford Scholarship (Ashland County 4-H)

Must be RECEIVED in mail by April 30th

The Kathy Blackford  Scholarship was established in 2021 to honor retired Ashland County 4-H Educator Kathy Blackford. This scholarship will be awarded annually to CURRENT ACTIVE members in the Ashland County 4-H program.  The Kathy Blackford Scholarship will be awarding a one-time minimum $500 scholarship.  Depending on number of applicants, numerous awards or money amounts may be given.

COAD David V. Stivison Appalachian Community Action Scholarship

The Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance to students who are residents of the 30 counties in The Corporation for Ohio Appalachian Development (COAD) service area and want to attend college, but lack the required resources. Submit: AHS Guidance by May 3rd (No later than 2:45pm)

​The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage young people interested in becoming teachers and to aid sons and/or daughters of ACTA members who are attending college, regardless of career selection. Selection criteria includes students who are children of ACTA members and majoring in education. Additional students may be chosen if criteria are not met such as if there are no education majors, or children of ACTA members. The ACTA committee reserves the right to not award the scholarship if candidates do not meet selection criteria.

$500 scholarship to graduating Ashland High School seniors sponsored by Mr. Mark Corrado of Leading Lady Enterprises in honor of his father.


Sutton Bank Scholarship

Submit to AHS Guidance by May 10th

Sponsored by Sutton Bank, this awards a $1000 scholarship to a student planning to major in business or a related field. Students must have a 3.3 GPA







​​Brethren Care Scholarship

Must be received in mail (student mails) or email by:  May 15th


Three $1,000 awards to three graduating seniors who have an affiliation with Brethren Care Village and have a 3.0 GPA. Students must also include two letters of recommendation. See application for further details. 

​A​merican Legion Harry Higgins

​Post 88 Scholarship

Submit to: AHS Guidance by May 24th

 

Sponsored by the local American Legion Post 88 in honor of Harry Higgins, this scholarship awards a 1 time $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior pursuing a college education. More details on the eligibility inside the application. Students must have at least a 2.5 GPA but not higher than a 3.5.

This scholarship is open to all college-bound seniors at Ashland High School enrolling in a 2 or 4 year program. The PB&J scholarship is looking for students that have experienced challenges in their life and have a drive to succeed.
