◆ What kind of research are you doing?

I am studying both the function and structure of tuft cells, which are taste-like cells, using a technique called CLEM (Correlative Light and Electron Microscopy).

◆ Things you like and dislike

I like playing racket sports and anything pink. I dislike unmelted cheese and the feeling of being cold.

◆ Reason for choosing this lab

I am a very visual person, and I understand things better when I can actually see them. I was drawn to this lab because of its expertise in advanced imaging. I want to make images that help us see biology in greater detail, and hopefully help other people understand it too. In the end, I hope that being able to see these things better can help us understand how our bodies work.

◆ Impressions after joining

In this lab, I feel free to explore my own ideas and curiosity. I don’t feel like I am just following instructions. I feel like an actual member of the lab, where my ideas and contributions have value. Having the freedom to be creative and explore things on my own keeps me motivated and makes me excited about my research. At the same time, there is always plenty of guidance and support whenever I need it.

◆ A message to junior students, etc.

This lab can turn your curiosity and motivation into real growth. Similar with my experience, you can start with little or no knowledge of the field, and with the guidance and opportunities here, you can gradually build your skills and confidence. Most importantly, you can grow while having fun. Research can be challenging, but being part of a supportive and enjoyable lab makes the journey much more rewarding.
