Geology 12

Earth is constantly changing. Its surface is made up of large plates floating on a plastic-like layer below the surface. These plates move around changing the shapes of the continents and oceans. Erosion and weathering are also at work changing the landmasses. The course will begin with a brief study of the solar system. The geologist’s ultimate goal is to find out the complete history of the earth’s structure - from its origin to the present time. Some of the topics covered to help in the study of the earth’s history include plate tectonics, glaciers, earthquakes, minerals, volcanoes, rocks and the rock cycle.

The course may include a two-day field trip to conclude the studies in Geology.
