Biology 11

The cell is the basic unit of life. This course looks at the great diversity that exists among all the organisms in the biosphere, as well as the unity that exists among them. All forms of life need energy and the processes of photosynthesis and cellular respiration are examined. Special attention will be given to the respiratory system, circulatory system, lymphatic system and excretory system and these will be studied in the simplest form of animal life (sponges) to the most complex animal (mammals). Representative organisms will be examined within their ecosystems and we will see how matter and energy flows through these particular ecosystems. If time permits, students will have an opportunity to perform some basic dissections. To ensure success, students should have done well in their previous science course.
