Audio Maker is a tool that provides an alternative means of distributing information by making content available in audio format. It converts selected text from any webpage into an audio file, e.g. MP3, which will be automatically downloaded and can then be saved or shared.
To use this feature, simply select the text that you want to turn into an audio file, and click the 'audio maker' button on the toolbar. A progress window will appear, and once complete, the audio file will appear at the bottom left of the screen. This file can then be downloaded to any device, or saved in a Google Drive for listening to when convenient.
Particularly useful for:
Students who prefer to have content read aloud, rather than sight reading
Students with visual impairments, people who are non-verbal, and low-level readers
Auditory learners who require repetition for instructions or understanding of concepts
Creates an accessible audio reading option for students who struggle with cognitive, visual, and physical impairments as well as students lacking motivation, those with attention issues, or those who are EAL
Offers the option to listen to files (instead of reading, to review concepts or notes) when on the go, like on the school bus
Helps build listening skills
Allows students to independently listen to text without guidance or help
Helpful for memorizing formulas, poems, speeches, etc.
Allows students to save specific audio recordings for future use in other classes or for assignments at home
Helps teachers to engage all learners
Easily create accessible audio copies of online information in a saveable format that can be shared with students for differentiation
Files can be saved in a format that is accessible from any device
Use as a supplement to written text, to improve comprehension of students who don't learn well through print-only mediums
Engage students who shut down when asked to read print media independently
Assign repeated listening to (shorter) Audio Maker files to improve memory retention of key information
