The Mi'kmaq teaching of Msit No’kmaq means that all things are related. Check out some of the links below to understand how.
Teaching about the Mi'kmaq is a free, online resource developed by the Mi'kmawey Debert Cultural Centre. It is available in both English and French on their website.
One of the stories in this resource is Kiju. It is about a 7-year old girl who goes to collect mayflowers with her grandmother and learns about biodiversity and interconnectivity along the way.

Offline ideas - Get outside!
Here are a few ideas on how to explore biodiversity in your own backyard.
Draw a picture of your yard or a nearby park and label as many things as you can, in French. (Gr. P-6)
Older grades could also describe how the different species are related (Gr 7-10)
Talk about the characteristics of animals that make them different/special (Gr. P-3) and important in their ecosystems (Gr. 4-10)
Play a game with someone else who speaks French where you see who can name the most species in a specific habitat : ocean, forest, pond, desert, etc. (Gr 4-9)
If the other person doesn't speak French, try to translate all the species they identify.
Start a science journal describing the different plants and animals you see in your yard or community. Describe the changes you see over time and make predictions about how they are related. (Gr 4-12)
