The Compensation Unit of the Nova Scotia Education Common Services Bureau was established in 2023 and consists of a Director of Compensation and Benefits and two Compensation Consultants. In collaboration with the Regional Centres for Education (RCEs) and the Conseil scolaire acadien provincial (CSAP), the Compensation Unit is responsible for:
Centralized management and coordination of the Education Entities Non-Union Compensation Framework, including ongoing monitoring and reporting.
Leading job evaluation and school assessment processes to determine appropriate pay band placement under the Compensation Framework.
Collaborating with RCE/CSAP HR teams to oversee salary rating processes for the placement of non-union and PSAANS employees within approved salary ranges.
Providing consulting and advisory services to the RCEs/CSAP and the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development on a variety of compensation and classification matters including organizational and job design, job description development and evaluation, salary determination and administration, costing, and pay plan design.
Developing tools, resources, and training to build capacity and compensation expertise across RCEs/CSAP.
Advancing system wide consistent and equitable compensation practices across Nova Scotia’s public education system.
