I've created this collection of materials as part of an assignment for EDUC 5203. Materials provided will direct teachers and parents to quality materials for printing and designing valuable learning tools for individuals with ASD. "Social Stories" is a term that we often use to describe a piece of writing that helps to support someone with ASD to understand their social environment. As you can see from the definitions below, this can be mis-leading language for anyone who is familiar with Carol Gray's work. However, for the purposes of this assignment I will provide materials that support both Grey's definition of a "Social Story" as well as "Personal Stories" which are commonly referred to as "Social Stories".
Carol Gray is a well known professional who is leading the way for educators and parents who are looking for research based practices to share information about social situations with individuals who have ASD. Social Stories have a very prescribed formula and criteria that authors must use inorder for their work to be considered a true social story.
Click on Carol's book to visit her website and learn more about the history of Social Stories, guidelines for creating them, examples and much more!
Any type of story written to provide information about social situations for students with ASD that does not meet Carol Gray's definition of a "Social Story". These stories are typicaly more persoal in nature and suitable for specific situations. Click on the photo to view the screening instrument for more information!
