I created this photo collage for a student to showcase an outing he went on during his time at school. To read about my search for an appropriate site/application please visit my blog at: Mrs. Kozera's Blog - Artifact #1 .
The photo above showcases the digital version of the collage but the final product was printed in colour on 8.5 x 11 computer paper and then laminated to give a polished and sturdy finsh!
I used the web application to create my artifact but there is also an App for Mac, Windows, Android and iOS.
Creating an account is free and very easy as you can use your Google account, Facebook account or email.
The are many templates to choose from and numerous customization options. Since I was showcasing halloween photos I chose a spiderweb photo for the background!

There are super quick and easy ways to create a variety of publications using the Canva website/apps. The collage I made is only one of hundreds of products that can be made for free. There are also templates for Social Media, Business, Personal, Marketing, Education, Photos, Icons, Apps and much more.
Finished products can be downloaded to your computer for free as PDF files, shared via social media apps or printed through the websites print service (for a fee but the prices are reasonable - $25 CAN for a t-shirt). Project files are automatically resised based on what you will be using it for.
I chose to make a photo collage for several reasons. First of all I wanted to provide something for the student to take home and talk to his family about. He is a verbal student but his school histroy has been very negative and my lack of narrative provides oppertunity for him to tell the story in his own words. The variety of photos presented also give a great view of what the excursion entailed. In the past I have simply cut and pasted photos into a word document and printed them but this product looks so much more professional and visually appealing.
This particular artifact took me a significant amount of time to create since I needed to find the application and then learn how to use it. However, moving forward this will be a quick and easy way for me to create materials for my students and will actually save me time as photos can simply be uploaded and plopped into templates that do not require me to resize, crop and edit the photos.
The Canva site automatically saves designs you are working on when you are signed in with your user account. This is especially helpful for me as a resource teacher as I often get pulled away to support students and have lost many projects in the past due to technical issues.
There is a Pro option for those users who are looking for more professional options but unless you run a business or company I don't see why you would need to subscribe. For more information about pricing click here.
Thank you Canva for creating a user friendly product!
