Along with the links below, be sure to check out the guidance bulletin board for new scholarships posted. Not all scholarships are publicized, so check with companies, organizations, clubs and groups. Also, be sure to check the company where you work part-time as well as the company your parent/guardian works. Some companies offer scholarships to employees or dependents of employees.

Our belief is that achieving a high grade point average should not be the only criteria for determining who deserves to be helped. For that reason we are offering a scholarship that will be awarded on the basis of character, as determined by an evaluation of the essays that are submitted.
Scholarships are intended for our future leaders across a wide spectrum of fields of study. This award is available to high school seniors and all students attending a post-secondary educational facility.
You are not required to be taking Engineering courses to be eligible.

- When you look back on your life in 30 years, what would it take for you to consider your life successful? What relationships or accomplishments will be important on this journey?

Students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and the ability to excel at Cambridge University.
Intellectual depth and personal integrity are key requirements and should be reflected in their grades and letters of recommendation.
Full tuition, travel and living costs for 3 years
Provides $650,000 annually in need-based scholarship support for deserving students in all Canadian provinces and territories. Scholarships of up to $10,000 are awarded to full-time students in their final year of high school with financial need (family income under $65,000) who have demonstrated integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity, a commitment to pursue a post-secondary education, a desire to contribute to society, and a good academic record. CEGEP students in Quebec, and all Canadian students in their final year of high school are eligible to apply in English or French.
Students who submit an application may be considered for one of the following two awards:
National Entrepreneurial Scholarship (10 awards)
$10,000 award for students to use towards a degree at a post-secondary institution. Recipients receive an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. to attend the National Scholars Conference along with their American counterparts.
Canadian Scholarship (160 awards)
$5,000 award for students to use towards a degree at a post-secondary institution.

Eligibility Criteria for High School Students
- Be in your final year of uninterrupted full-time studies in high school.

Students interested in applying for the Loran should apply directly through the Loran Scholarship website. There is no limit on how many students from one school can apply.

In 2022, there will be 500 RBC Future Launch scholarships (valued at $1500 each) awarded across the country. Funds may be used for supporting a wide range of learning opportunities, such as short-term courses, workshops, certificates, or online training – and their associated costs (tuition, books, tools, travel, etc.).
Unlike traditional scholarships, applicants will not be required to submit grades or transcripts. Recipients will instead be selected based on their drive, commitment to lifelong learning, and how they plan to pursue their chosen learning opportunity. Applicants will also be able to submit non-traditional reference materials, such as visual art, music, poetry, or video blogs. RBC has partnered with Universities Canada – the voice of Canada’s universities and a national leader in scholarship management for more than 50 years – who will administer/adjudicate the applications and award the scholarships across the country.
- The RBC Future Launch Scholarship for Indigenous Youth will award 20 scholarships annually valued up to $10,000 each per year (up to 4 years) to First Nations, Inuit and Métis students across Canada demonstrating strong academic performance and community involvement.
- The RBC Future Launch Scholarship for Black Youth will award 20 scholarships annually valued up to $10,000 each per year (up to 4 years) to Black students across Canada.
TD Scholarship for Community Leadership

Last year, 20 students were selected and awarded scholarships valued at up to $70,000 including four years of tuition at any approved university or college in Canada, up to a maximum of $10,000 per year; $7500 per year towards living expenses and offers of summer employment.

A $1,000 Scholarship For Those Affected By Life-Changing Accidents
The Certa Law Personal Injury & Wrongful Death Scholarship is an award for any current or soon-to-be undergrad who has had their life altered due to a bodily injury from an automotive or pedestrian accident, be it their own injury, that of a loved one, or an influential individual.
The Certa Law Scholarship has a brief submission process, and applicants will be judged on their ability to convey the lasting effect an accident has had on their life.
North American Van Lines Canada Scholarship

Schulich Scholarship

To be considered, students must be applying for a Post Secondary Science, Technology, Engineering or Math program at one of the 20 participating Canadian Universities. The Schulich Leaders Scholarship is looking for dynamic, entrepreneurial-minded students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, charisma and creativity. Strong consideration is given for students with demonstrated financial need.
- Halifax West can nominate only one student. Please submit a current resume and a one-page letter outlining the reasons why you believe you meet the criteria to be the school nominee. Only complete the application found on the Schulich website if you are selected as our nominee.
- Resume and letter must be submitted to the School Counselling Center by the deadline: December 1st, 2023 at 4pm.
Applicants must provide three (3) referees and upload online an (un)official transcript detailing the applicant’s last two years of schooling (official transcripts, sealed by the issuing institution will be requested from applicants who are selected for an interview). Referees will be emailed a link requesting they complete an online Referee Form on behalf of the applicant.
Terry Fox Humanitarian Awards are open to students of all abilities.
To be considered for the Award, applicants must meet be:
- In good academic standing.
- Canadian citizens or landed immigrants.
- Students graduating from secondary (high) school or students completing their first year of CÉGEP or students who have completed secondary (high) school
- Involved in voluntary humanitarian activities (for which they have not been compensated)
Verna J. Kirkness Education Foundation

The VJKF Program offers Indigenous high school students in grades 11 and 12 an opportunity to spend one week conducting STEM research at a Canadian university!
- Applicant self-Identifies as a First Nations, Métis, or Inuit student currently in grades 11 or 12.
- Completed application (online or mailed in).
- Signed guardian consent form.
- Reference letter from teacher or school counsellor.
- Essay written by the student indicating why they are interested in attending the VJKF Program (100–400 words).
- Confirmed availability for at least one of the Program weeks (see above).
- Student must agree to provide a short update regarding ongoing education activities when requested by VJKF staff.

Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada post-secondary scholarships award young people $5000 for each academic year until they finish their program (to a maximum of 7 years from their program start) through a once yearly competitive application. The deadline to apply is January 24th, 2024.
To be eligible to apply for a scholarship, you need to be,
- Not currently receiving a Foundation Scholarship*
- Have been or will be in the temporary or permanent care of the Ministry or Department responsible for child protection services up until your age of majority birthday or had been in permanent care of the Ministry or Department responsible for child protection services for at least 12 months

Debut Atlantic Award for Musical Excellence

Fisheries & Aquaculture Bursary Program

The Fisheries and Aquaculture Student Bursary Program aims to help Nova Scotia fill the labor gap for aquaculture, seafood buying and seafood processing facilities. The program also introduces students to aquaculture and the seafood sector as viable career options.
To apply for the bursary, students must be:
- a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant and a permanent resident of Nova Scotia
- enrolled in an accredited post-secondary institution in September of the program year and
- employed by a licensed Nova Scotia aquaculture operator, seafood buyer or seafood processor guaranteeing a minimum work term of 250-500 hours between 1 April and 31 December.

Knoll Diversity Advancement Design Scholarship for Black Students

Knoll Foundation has established a scholarship program to assist students who identify as black that reside in the United States and Canada who plan to continue their education in a college or vocational school in a design-related program. $10,000
Applicants to the Knoll Diversity Advancement Design Scholarships for Black Students Program must:
- Identify as Black
- Reside in the US or Canada
- Be high school seniors/students in their final year of upper secondary school who plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two or four year college or university or CEGEP institution for the entire academic year.
- Be pursuing a design-related degree; majors include, but are not limited to: Architecture, Architecture Technician, Architecture Technology, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Industrial Engineering, Industrial Production Technology, Interior Design
The McEuen Scholarship is awarded to qualified Canadian students age 21 and younger for a full three-year undergraduate or a four-year honours degree at the University of St Andrews in Scotland.
The scholarship covers all tuition and residence fees and includes a book allowance of £200.
Awarded annually to a resident Canadian citizen, this renewable entrance scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic and extra-curricular achievement.
Mensa Canada Scholarships

The Mensa Canada Scholarship Programme offers a number of different scholarships. The awards range from $1000 - $2500, and each has its own eligibility requirements. Please see the links below for complete details.

Peter Kohler Scholarship

The Peter Kohler Scholarship is awarded to a student who hopes to enter their first year of full-time studies in an Engineering Program at a University in Atlantic Canada in September of the coming school year. This award is open to both graduating high school students and students from a community college. Applicants will be adjudicated upon the basis of their financial need and their character, with preference given to students who display entrepreneurial spirit. The award is valued at $50,000, distributed over a period of four years – an outstanding opportunity for young Nova Scotian innovators who are facing financial hardship to excel and flourish. Criteria:
- Must be graduating from high school in June of the current school year be and entering their first year of full-time studies in an Engineering Program at a University in Atlantic Canada.
- The Peter Kohler Scholarship is intended for students who demonstrate financial need, and is meant to provide an opportunity for young and bright students who might not be able to enroll in university if it were not for this funding.

Phillip W. Oland Scholarship

Students must hand in a resume and one-page letter/bio detailing why they are the best candidate to be nominated for the Oland Scholarship.

All 1st-year, full-time students nominated by high school. Minimum 90% average and have achieved superior academic standing while demonstrating St.FX qualities of leadership and service to community. Open to students from NS, NB, PE and NL. Nomination form can be found here.
Five prizes of $25,000 (2 of which will be awarded to Indigenous students)
Available to Canadian students aged 16-18 who will be pursuing post-secondary studies in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts or Math at a Canadian university next year.

NSCAD Course Bursary for Young Artist

Who can apply? Students in Grades 9 - 12
NSCAD University’s Teen Arts Studio Bursary Program was created in 1983 through the endowed gift of Alexander J. MacDonald. The Bursary Program is designed to engage highly motivated young artists in grades 9-12, experiencing financial challenges or living in low-income environments, who are keen to explore the visual arts but are unlikely to enroll due to registration costs. Selected applicants will receive full tuition towards the online Portfolio Review course.
The Young Women in Public Affairs (YWPA) Program:
The YWPA program offers recognition and awards at district and international level for outstanding young women who are making a difference in their world through service.
The Zonta Club of Halifax YWPA winner will receive C$1,000.00 whose application will then be forwarded to District I for competition at that level. The YWPA winner at District will be awarded US$1,000.00 and her application will be forwarded to Zonta International to compete for one of the 10 YWPA awards of US$4,000.00. The Donald R. Sobey Family Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic excellence, proven leadership skills and involvement in school and/or community activities.
The scholarship is a renewable entrance award, valued at $17,000 for the first year and $11,000 for each of the next three years. Applicants must be Canadian citizens and be entering the Foundation Year Program at the University of King’s College. Recipients who make satisfactory academic progress will be automatically renewed for the award.
Canadian Right of Way Education Foundation Scholarship

The scholarship is open to graduating high school students who will be pursuing studies in fields related to public infrastructure such as engineering, real property law, land use planning, real property appraisal, surveying and environmental studies. Students will need to have maintained an average of 75% or higher over their three years of high school education. Along with the application, students must submit a transcript, 2 letters of recommendation and a brief bio.
We value the diversity of professions involved in Right of Way and Infrastructure Real Estate: Appraisers, negotiators, engineers, solicitors, surveyors, property managers, environmentalist, planners, project managers etc.
DHF Scholarship Program

Diabetes Hope Foundation
Since 1999, DHF has invested over $3 million in education grants to support students living with diabetes across Canada. The Diabetes Hope Scholarship Program was established to recognize youth in the community who have excelled in their academic achievements; demonstrated exceptional leadership skills and volunteerism in the community; and possess exemplary diabetes self- management practices.
Dr. P Anthony Johnstone Memorial Scholarship

A $6,000.00 scholarship available to Nova Scotia students entering their first year of university. The Province established the scholarship in 1991 to honour the life and work of the late Tony Johnstone, a long-time educator and human rights advocate who devoted his life to promoting multicultural understanding and social equality.
To be eligible for the scholarship, a student must live in Nova Scotia, be graduating from high school and beginning an undergraduate degree program at a Maritime university in the fall. The applicant must also have demonstrated an interest in multiculturalism and human rights.
East Coast Credit Union Bursary

The East Coast Credit Union Bursary Program recognizes the contribution of our young leaders of tomorrow. The growth of East Coast Credit Union exemplifies the achievements of people working together in their own communities. We hope to encourage those qualities of good citizenship and co-operation through this bursary program.
To be eligible, the applicant must:
1. Be a member or the child or grandchild of a member of East Coast Credit Union.
2. Be enrolled full-time for your first year at an accredited vocational program, college or university for the upcoming academic year.
3. Complete the application and submit it before the deadline on March 7th, 2022.
4. Be a Canadian citizen.
The Frank E. Milne Scholarship Foundation offers University Entrance Scholarships to residents of Nova Scotia, with preference given to students entering Engineering or Science. High academic standing in Mathematics and Precalculus is required. The Scholarship rewards students of Academic Excellence exhibiting exceptional mathematical skills, outstanding leadership qualities in school, athletics, or community involvement, and obvious interest in pursuing networking opportunities as a Milne Scholar.
To apply, download and complete the Applicant Information form (.docx) and submit alongside a Resume, a high quality head and shoulders JPEG, an unofficial High School Transcript, and an Essay about your activities, interests and accomplishments.

Future Health Research and Innovation Scholarship - IWK

John Abbass Sr. Memorial Scholarship

The John Abbass Sr. Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in the memory of John Abbass Sr. by Family Business Atlantic. This annual Scholarship is awarded to children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews of Family Business Atlantic members, or family business owners in Nova Scotia and helps promote post-secondary business education pursuits. Applications are reviewed by the Scholarship Committee, with the award disbursed to the winning candidate’s post secondary educational institution
Simon J. Khattar Scholarship
This renewable $1,000 scholarship is open to practicing Catholics of good moral character, who are residents of NS and completing high school in June or in their first year of university, college or community college.
The attached application form should be used by students that will be graduating in 2024 and who are practicing Catholics living in the geographic area covered by Holy Apostles Parish. The Parish includes all the communities that border Shad Bay, Timberlea (BLT), Tantallon, Hammonds Plains, Hubbards, Chester and New Ross. Up to 140 awards of Leonard Foundation scholarships are available each year. These awards are targeted to high school and university students seeking to complete a first degree. Preference is given to those who demonstrate financial need. A scholarship can be applied for in subsequent years until a first degree is completed.
The value of the award is approximately $1500.00 for those living at home and $2000.00 for those living independently.

QEII Foundation Diversity in Health Care Bursaries

The RE/MAX Quest for Excellence Scholarship Program is a great opportunity for your grade 12 students to earn a cash scholarship in recognition for their ongoing community contributions and pursuit of leadership. RE/MAX Canada will award 40 scholarships of $1,000 each to students across Canada (except for Quebec).
Participants must be a Grade 12 student attending high school in the 2022/2023 academic year, who have not previously participated in graduation commencement ceremonies in the past.
Eligible students are invited to write and submit an online essay* up to 1,250 words in length, answering one of the following questions:

The IWK Foundation invites applications for the Robbie and Jean Shaw Scholarship. This award consists of a scholarship valued at minimum $2,000.
Eligible applicants are current or former IWK patients who have an academic average of 75 per cent or higher and who are entering their first year of post-secondary studies.
Applicants must submit a minimum 500 word essay answering the following question: How has your experience at the IWK impacted your life and shaped your goals for the future?

Ringette Canada Scholarships

Applicants must be ringette players registered with one of Ringette Canada’s provincial/territorial member associations, NCCP-certified ringette coaches, and active on-ice ringette-certified officials who will be enrolled full-time in a recognized post-secondary education institution for the next academic year.
Applicants must have actively participated in ringette as player, coach or on-ice official for at least five of the last seven years and must be registered in the current playing season. Successful applicants will be those who have demonstrated sustained commitment to the sport of ringette through playing, coaching, officiating and other volunteer activities.

To be eligible for this award, applicants must be Nova Scotians between the ages of five and 21 and keen to advance their skills in one or more of the following Scottish Gaelic traditions: fiddle, pipes, piano/guitar accompaniment, language, storytelling, song, and dance.
Applicants must indicate which Scottish Gaelic tradition will be the main focus of study if the scholarship is received. Individuals who have received an award will have the opportunity to reapply for a scholarship three years subsequent to their win. Only one financial award per family will be considered annually. The Medavie Scholarship honours Pierre-Yves Julien, the former CEO of Medavie. As a not-for-profit health services organization, Pierre-Yves recognized our commitment to the communities where our employees, and the Canadians we serve, live and work.
Up to five scholarships of $5,000 each will be awarded this year to youth who are living with a mental health challenge of their own or that of a family member and are pursuing health-related post-secondary studies at a recognized Canadian university or community college and plan to pursue a career in their health-related field of studies. Nova Scotia’s Department of Natural Resources and Renewables is assisting 16 Nova Scotia university or college students that are looking to gain the skills needed to work and conduct research in renewable energy, and earth sciences. Nova Scotia's Department of Natural Resources and Renewables is a rich source of careers in the renewable energy, efficiency and offshore oil or gas industries. To help students gain the skills needed to work and conduct research in these sectors, 16 scholarships are available to those entering natural resource and renewable energy-related programs:

NSGEU High School Essay/Artistic Expression Awards

Open to Any Graduate in the Current School Year
Twenty-four awards of $500 will be given across the province, three in each NSGEU region. Anyone graduating grade 12 in the current school year and attending post secondary school in the fall is eligible.
Complete a 750 word essay by May 15th or submit a form of artistic expression demonstrating the history and importance of unions or NSGEU in your community. Complete the application and return to NSGEU. Awards will be given in the spring of the graduate year and the successful award recipients will be notified. Other swag gifts will be mailed to randomly selected applicants.
PREP’s Legacy Scholarship will provide four $2,000 scholarships to PREP Cohort students entering a college or university in September 2023.
The scholarship can be used for tuition, registration fees, books, school supplies and other fees to help you be successful in college or university.

Royal Canadian Legion – Poppy Committee Somme Branch #31 Bursary

Bursaries are available to students whose parents or grandparents meet one of the following criteria:
- Ex-service personnel of the Canadian Armed Forces
- Ex-service personnel who served on Class C Reserve Serve
- Were Merchant Navy personnel who were awarded campaign stars or decorations
- Ex-service personnel of Commonwealth countries who are now resident in Canada,
- Or ex-service personnel of allied countries who are now resident in Canada.

RRCF scholarships can be held in conjunction with other scholarships provided that the total of the RRCF scholarship and all other scholarships does not exceed $6,000.
In considering the submission of an RRCF Application, note that RRCF focuses its scholarships on wellness enabling (for example nursing, physiotherapy, dietician, pharmacy, elder care); business (e.g. accounting, economics, statistics and finance); and trade skills training (e.g. electrician, hair dressing).
Applications for RRCF scholarships must be received by May 31 for programs commencing during September of the same year. Applications received after the deadline date are not considered.
Open to residents of Atlantic Canada (regardless of age) who will be enrolled in an accredited post-secondary program in the upcoming academic year. Applications are accepted in both English and French. Scholarship recipients will be required to provide proof of acceptance and enrollment. Application requires essay and budget.

Divert NS is offering up to $20,000 over seven scholarships to Grade 12 students in Nova Scotia who have exemplified dedication in protecting our environment.
One (1) $5,000 provincial scholarship & Six (6) $2,500 regional scholarships
To be awarded one of the scholarship prizes, your entry must include the following:

Wayne Harrett Memorial Scholarship

The Wayne Harrett Memorial Scholarship for 2023 will be two, non-renewable $2,000 scholarships awarded to a student currently enrolled in a high school in the Halifax Regional Centre for Education. Consideration will also be given to a mature student who is currently doing an internship at a media outlet. The applicant will best exemplify the desire to study in the field that Wayne himself so highly valued.
The interested parties would be enrolling in a secondary institution to study any aspect of radio and television broadcasting/operations, journalism or public relations.

Kidney Foundation - Atlantic Canada Branch Bursary

The general purpose of the bursary is to assist kidney patients and their family members to further their education and/or training.
The total funds available are $2,000 annually. Four (4) awards of Five Hundred Dollars ($500) each may be awarded each year.
- Selection of bursary recipients will be on the basis of their academic achievement, leadership, financial need and professional goals.
- Any kidney patient, the spouse of a kidney patient, or a dependent child of a kidney patient may apply for a bursary. A kidney patient is defined as one on any mode of dialysis, is transplanted or has been diagnosed with chronic renal disease.

The Wessex Scholarship is presented annually to commemorate the visit by His Royal Highness The Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex to IWK Health in November 2015. A $5,000 award, this scholarship recognizes the important role community service has played in supporting the IWK in providing exceptional care to patients and families. The Wessex Scholarship is awarded to a deserving individual by the IWK Foundation.
Eligible applicants will be graduating from an Atlantic Canadian high school and entering a post-secondary health care degree level program at an Atlantic Canadian institution (please see Appendix A for a list of eligible programs). This scholarship focuses on the impact of community service and as such, applicants should be active participants in their community. A minimum grade average of 80 per cent is required. Students who have applied, but have not yet been accepted into an eligible program may still apply for Wessex Scholarship and may be asked to provide proof of acceptance at time of award if selected.
