These guides were created as a regional support for teachers, particularly during reporting periods. They provide general guidelines to help teachers monitor student progress and identify areas where additional support may be needed.

The guides are not intended to dictate what must be taught each term. Teachers are expected to know the Nova Scotia curriculum, deliver literacy instruction systematically across all strands, assess student learning equitably, and use assessment results to guide instruction and determine next steps. The guides are intended to be a helpful resource to support teachers’ planning, assessment, and instructional decision-making.
