Handbook and By-laws distributed. Everyone is asked to go over them to discuss at next meeting. Some changes may be needed regarding membership to reflect our rural location and small committee.
Membership- four individuals are interested in representing North Highlands. Must vote but we did not have enough voting members at the meeting. Will find out about voting rules and vote via e-mail if permitted.
Budget- Principals were informed that any money coming through provincial budgets (SAC annual $5000 and $10,000 innovation fund) must be used or they will not continue to replenish or be rolled over. Sport teams: any fundraising money must be used, cannot carry over. Any leftover money should be used up by the end of the season- can buy sweatshirts, used for awards nights etc.

Innovation Grant- We are waiting for the money to be deposited for the volleyball court excavation.
Excavation of volleyball court- Naomi reached out to Omar again but no concrete date is set. We must get this completed or must send back the funds. We will continue to stress our time constraint to him and hope to get the project completed asap.
Annual SAC Conference- End of November in Halifax. We will present what we did with the funds (outdoor volleyball court). Naomi has spearheaded the volleyball court project so it is essential that she be there to present and share info. As a NSTU member she isn’t qualified but permission was requested and should hear back soon.
Innovation Grant 2025/2026- $10,000 we will apply again, must decide what to use it for. Suggestions: soldering materials.
Blossom funding- every school is eligible for $2000 but must apply. Want to use for field trips if we can. Can be used for health, mental health. Tommy Chubbs asks for $500 for mountain biking program.
Nourish NS Grant- Planting an edible garden on school grounds. A representative will come and teach students about the plants and guide planting on September 26.
Soccer net is rotten and needs to be replaced- roughly $2000. Can SAC put in some funds and H&S put in some funds and then apply to the county for the rest. Contact PE consultant to ask about specs for the net.
Arts Grant- Look for grant money for an art project or artist in residence. Offer 6 sessions, 6 different artists. Valerie will research.
Cleanliness of the school- write a letter from SAC stressing the need for more cleaners and speeding up the hiring process. We are concerned about the building cleanliness going into cold and flu season. Naomi will draft a letter.
