SAC Meeting May 29th, 2025
Attendance: Faye, Valerie, Naomi, Heather, Patricia, Corey
Approval of April 15th minutes- Heather, Naomi
1. Staffing for 2025-2026- cut 2 teachers- majority of tech courses (production, film and multimedia) will be absorbed by other current teachers in the school.
-3 TAs will be allotted next year
Course offerings: Canadian Contemporary 11, Gaelic Studies 11
Because of smaller class sizes- English Communications and Academic English will be combined for grade 11 and 12.
Middle school level- Grade 9s combined for Math and English. Grade 7 will be split into two classes for English and Math.
2. Lunch program- no new information. Contract will be put out to public. Recess snacks will probably be able to be there as well.
3. NSPIS- Denmark student next year.
4. Sports:
Coaches- most want to be back next year. Heather will hold a meeting at end of June to make sure they are prepared with record checks etc.
Soccer nets- arrived and all parts here to anchor it.
Soccer- Chrissy Bernhart expressed interest. Shannon Brown and another parent are interested in coaching soccer in the fall.
Badminton: Marie Hawley and Cassie Dixon will run badminton for kids with help from Chris Woodford at 5:30 Tuesdays.
5. CYPC- Megan Steves stationed at Cape Smokey, but will be at Cabot over the summer. She has set days for other locations when her students are not present at CS.
6.Events:
Honours Banquet- Went over well. Karen made the cheques from SAC and Cabot.
Tables- a few damaged, dealing with Walmart for replacement- Naomi/Jenna
Chairs- some came and we are not sure if the ones that came are our to keep or not. Heather is looking into it.
Distinctions- June 16th, send home letters, celebrate during the school day with a Sundae party. Will H&S help?
School events- EF Tours being planned
Health Summit Friday May 23- not well attended so next year we will not tell them the date.
Went well-Gaelic culture with Kyle MacDonald.
Career Fair-today, went well, 10 presenters, all organized by RCMP the is year. Natural resourses, RCMP, Bretoba, Keltic, Victoria Coop Fisheries, Parks Canada, EHS, Ski Cape Smokey. A few didn’t show up.
Awards Ceremony- June 11th @ 6pm- Heather is sending off awards tomorrow- Colburns.
SAC will donate $1200 for awards. First year for Male volleyball team they are all rookies so each player will get a small award (medal).
Grad supper June 6th- stuffed chicken catered by Coastal.
7.Supplies:
-Whiteboards have been ordered and arrived
-Sound board arrived.
-Order 10 more calculators for math program.
Furniture- Kim has asked for funds to create a more comfortable space in the library. We have to get it approved through the fire marshall that it meets regulations. Can SAC contribute? Kim will also contribute some library funds. Naomi will look through ideas with Kim and get a quote.
Cabot Entrance- SAC will contribute to some things: faux plants, lights, etc.
VolleyBall Court- Can SAC donate some funds for the excavation, concrete for posts and sand shipment? Valerie and Naomi will do the application for Innovation Fund through SAC $10,000 due June 6th.
8. Exams: days for next year -2 days for January 28th and 29th and 3 days in June. Option to do project based June 9th this will be discussed at the Regional level.
-Grade 10 provincials for Math will not be sent away.
9.Privacy Breach- Issues with people calling school to pick up students-scam
New Policy: In September parents will have to come into the school to pick up students.
10. SAC by-laws and membership:
Decide in September new members:
5 members, no more than 18
Parents, guardians, school staff, students, community members, elected or appointed no longer than 3 years.
8 voting members
