SAC Meeting April 15th , 2025

4. New Business:
-Staffing for 2025-2026 Still don’t have numbers yet, may lose 2 teachers because 36 students going out and only 19 coming in. Center doesn’t have staffing calendar completed yet.
-Course Offerings: Canadian History 11 and replaced with Contemporary Canadian Studies 11, does fulfill the requirement (Can also do Mik’maw studies, African Canadian Studies, or Gaelic Studies 11). Possibly have 2 courses offered: Life 11, Gaelic Studies (history of Scots and Celts coming to this area) Virtual school listings: Math 11 offered both semesters. All courses will depend on staffing. Tech program for 7 and 8s will likely be offered again next year. Math for grade 11 has 4 options Math 11, Math at work, Math Essentials, Pre-cal (virtual).
-Lunch Program: Cabot will offer the provincial lunch program for free (pay what you can) next year. Heather spoke to Center, Debbie Mador, who says that there will be adjustments based on this year. Questions: recess-will the cafeteria be open at recess? Breakfast program: no discussion that it will be eliminated. Feedback from Students in the SAC- they prefer to have the food set up in Home Ec. room or somewhere other than the cart coming to the classroom.
-NSISP: Juliette is having a wonderful year here, will return to France in June. A new student from Denmark is coming next year, grade 10 or 11, basketball player. Possibly another student.
-Sports: Track and field is just starting, Nicole Courage, Drew LeBlanc (student teacher teaching about wrapping and injury).
-Basketball: senior girls made it to provincials, made it 7th out of all the schools in the province.
-Danny and Ainsley tournament was very successful, will do it again next year.
-Naming the work-out room after Ainsley, parents and SAC are both willing to do this, need a plaque to honour this.
-Coach for Soccer- a parent is interested but needs help.
-Heather to meet with all current coaches and see who is available next year. Go over incoming rules about hosting games etc.
-Heather is creating a “Cabot needs your help” poster to get help.
-CYPC Position: was posted and filled. Megan Steves- was a TA prior, is living in Dingwall and based here but will spend most of the time at Cape Smokey (based on need). She has completed the training.
-Honours/Distinction Calculations: 7, 8, 9 use 4 core subject and 2 other courses (highest marks), Grade 10 must use all 8 required courses (Coop does not count), Grade 11 use their 3 required courses Math, English, Can. Studies, 2 highest marks.
-Honours banquet May 21
-Sports Awards June 10th
SAC funding request: Kim (library) wants to make it more cozy- looking at ordering furniture from Connor’s account through the school. Can SAC offer some money?
-H&S wanting to create a cozy corner in the cafeteria.
School events
-EF tours- NY trip went well, planning starting for 2027 Italy trip.
-Spirit week-Student council put this on this week
-Health Fair- Cabot Cares Health Summit May 23rd, incorporate Gaelic awareness month. Jackie asked for funds to support.
Vote to donate $250 for this event – majority: yes
-Honours Banquet- May 21st need to confirm with Jason, cost will be split 3 ways (Cabot, SAC, H&S). Marks in by May 1
-Awards- June 10th- sports and after school clubs, can SAC donate some funds towards the trophies & plaques. Vote to donate:$1200 Majority: Yes
-Grad dinner: June 6 catered by Coastal
-Prom: June 20th at Cabot
-Graduation: June 26th 7pm
-Safe Grad: to follow graduation at Cabot, BBQ, June 24th
