Recognitions:

Project 351 Representatives from Great Falls Middle School/Community Service Project

Congratulations to Jackson Cogswell, Laken Chessie, and Lincoln Coleman for being selected as Great Falls Middle School Ambassadors to Project 351. These three students have begun their spring community service project, which will be a clothing drive. There are collection boxes at the middle school and at the Central Office for new or clean used clothing for children aged infant through youth size large. They will not be collecting any shoes.

Collections will be done from Monday March 28th to Friday April 8th. All donations will be passed on to the Cradles to Crayons organization. We are so proud of the willingness of these student leaders for taking the time to help children with such needs in our community and across the nation.

High School Rise Up Class Event: Dodge for a Cause

Rise Up is a Turners Falls High School course where students in grades 9-12 learn leadership and communication skills through team building and community service.

Last Friday evening, the class held their annual Dodgeball tournament. This activity allows students to learn how to plan and host an event for the community. The proceeds from the fundraiser are used by students in their Community Service Mapping Project. The class identifies needs, defines capacity, writes proposals, and then they construct a project that will help members of our community. The most recent projects from previous years were "Munch Boxes" and toiletry totes, which addressed issues of food insecurity and hygiene needs respectively.

The Rise Up Dodgeball tournament raised $1,000! This beat the group’s previous record of $860. They had a record 18 competitive teams, including the winners "Quiet Hours," who are all TFHS alumni and who donated their $100 prize to the cause. In addition, the Montague Police Association made a generous donation in lieu of sending a team as they have in the past. We had approximately 115 players and 215 spectators in two brackets. Thank you to TFHS teacher Faith Klumb and many students, parents, and members of the school community who helped make the event a truly fun way to pull the community together for a cause. Rise Up is looking forward to helping our community with the proceeds from this community event.

Project Lead the Way Grant Award

Congratulations to Principal Christopher Barnes and Director of Teaching & Learning Jeanne Powers for being awarded a $40,000 competitive grant that will help the high school offer three new elective courses in the field of engineering. Thank you, Ms. Powers and Mr. Barnes!

New Sign on the Way for Gill Elementary School

Thank you to High School and Middle School Teacher Brian Lamore and the students who assisted him in making a new outdoor sign for Gill Elementary School. The new sign looks great and should be up soon at GES. Thank you, Mr. Lamore!
