Superintendent’s Report

Turners Falls High School Softball Team:

Congratulations to the Turners Falls High School Softball team on another successful season. The girls had an exceptional run in the State Tournament, making it all the way to the Final Four in Division V, before suffering a hard-fought loss to West Boylston, 2-0. Thank you to Coach Mullins and his players for again taking our community on a thrilling trip deep into the playoffs.

Successful Bowling Fundraiser:

On Sunday, June 12th, Turners Falls High School Active Bystanders hosted a bowling tournament to raise funds to support refugees from the war in Ukraine. In just 10 days, with exceptional support from the community, their efforts raised more than $1,100 to be donated to World Central Kitchen. I would like to thank Erik Semb for his exceptional generosity in providing us the French King Bowling Center for the entire day, as well as Lew Collins of Between the Uprights for his donation and assistance in organizing the event. I would also like to thank Julian Mendoza for helping us publicize the event.

I would like to personally thank high school students Wesley Berdugo, Jaade Duncan, Jack Trombi, Ricky Pareja, and David Stowe who worked the event for the entire day. I would also like to thank Timmie Smith, Bob Clancy, Joanne Blier, Jenay Haskins, Son Hui May, Tabby Martinelli, Mike and Sabrina Duprey, and Rosa Kessler for their generous contributions.

In addition to the individual contributions, we were inspired by so many local businesses and individuals who were eager to support the efforts of our students by donating gift cards and other items for a raffle held the day of the event. We are deeply appreciative of the generous support from:

  • Thomas Memorial Golf Club

  • Our Legacy Family Farm in Montague

  • The People's Pint in Greenfield

  • The Upper Bend Café in Turners Falls

  • Between the Uprights in Turners Falls

Updates on Flooring Projects:

Gill Elementary School

The flooring installation has been completed 1 month ahead of schedule. The Main Office, Nurse’s Office, and restrooms are included, in addition to all classrooms that were remaining from last year. Facilities staff are re-assembling rooms this week.

Hillcrest Elementary School

The abatement project has been completed 1 week ahead of schedule. Air quality testing has also been completed and facilities staff have been approved to re-enter the building. The bid for the installation contract has been finalized. With the early completion of the abatement project, we are hopeful that the floor and carpet installation can now also begin ahead of schedule.
