An assortment of woodland creatures come together in this short film to reflect on our own human nature. Which creatures exhibit social anxiety? Has Fiona Frog had one too many drinks? Their free-spirited dance moves, flirtatious glances, and Ricky Rat's passion for guitar might remind a person of their own desires.
The animals are hand-drawn on card stock and jointed together with small colored brads making each figure fully dynamic and adjustable. On set, the animals are taped to a wire to allow them to stand freely and have an even larger range of motion.
The bar scene is built of primarily cardboard and paper strategically cut, sculpted, and painted. Delicate paper glasses and bottles sit on the shelf, drawn with meticulous detail. Posters and paintings on card stock and tiny canvases line the walls, giving the space an authentic, dive-bar atmosphere.
CREATURES OF HABIT was displayed at Sarah Lawrence College's Heimbold Open Studios at the end of the Spring 2022 semester. The film played on loop above the set and characters.
